It's a whale of a tale.
An Oregon fishing community tried to use a life-size replica of an orca to scare off thousands of sea lions that clogged up the docks, but the effort came to a sudden halt when the whale capsized.
Robert Evert, the Permit and Project Manager of the Port of Astoria, tells ABC News that at least 2,000 sea lions hang out on the boat docks and vessels, impacting the local and regional economy.
Miami Man and Dog Find Giant Alligator on Front Doorstep Were losing probably $50,000 plus a year in revenue based on the sea lions occupying the docks and have $200,000 in damage, Evert said. Theyre not only injuring the port docks but theyre decimating the smelt and salmon migrations.

What does sea lion taste like? Sounds like it’s time to open a hunting season on them.

If they are losing that much money why not build them their own platform and feed them to encourage them to stay on the new platform instead of the docks..... Problem solved.

Big firecrackers called seal bombs used to be available to commercial fisherman. Banned, of course.
A sea kayaker friend of mine in Juneau was having trouble with aggressive sea lions so he painted the bottom of his craft to resemble an orca. It scared off the sea lions but tended to attract multiple orcas.

Sounds like they got it from the same people that provided the Iranians with a fake sub to try to fool satellite recon.
It bent in half during the first rough weather, even though it was lashed to a dock.

Used to be able to shoot the vermin.

AND all the while the Oregon tribes are offering to harvest the sea lions and seals. BUT, it makes too much sense to allow people to hunt and eat the animals. Gotta protect the sensibilities of the delicate tree huggers.
