Same here I have that little Windows icon to download 10, but I will wait until I get reviews or something. Will it be worth it? I do like Windows 7. I hate Windows 8.1..ugh

> “Where do babies come from?” ... Most users would like a an answer more like one you would give to an 11 year old.

Excellent analogy, since answers to Windows questions typically have multi-faceted answers. Take your "baby" question. Suppose you have the choice of pointing the 11-yr-old at either a) a page with a paragraph or two on birth and reproduction, or b) any ONE of the following short answers, all of which are correct but incomplete:

  1. Babies come from God.
  2. Babies come from the baby's parents.
  3. Babies come from the mother's belly.
  4. Babies come from the joining of an egg and a sperm.
  5. Babies come from a man and a woman making love.
  6. Babies come from the hospital, usually.
A 6-yr-old might be satisfied by any one of the above. But I suspect an 11-yr-old reading any one of them would eventually want to find out more. Why make them hunt for that knowledge?

Very few Windows questions have simple answers; most are about as complex as "Where do babies come from?"

I suppose one might assume that most Windows users function at the level of the 6-yr-old, though I find that assumption a bit patronizing to the users. I could be wrong... I was wrong once before, back in '58, when I was but 6... ;-)

'Zactly! The answer should to be scaled to the user's need.

"An error of type 0x80146017 occurred" satisfies virtually no one's needs.

It's not like microsoft isn't noted for bloatware, I've maintained for years that windows is what you get when you pay programers based on the shear number of lines of code written.

They could convert the worse-than-useless dialog boxes to something that provides the average user with a sense of what happened and allows the more advanced user the chance to click on the concise error descriptor for a more in depth treatment of the subject.

the task bar icon is an alert to get you to reserve a copy of RC W10. It will not install anything. It will schedule about a 3gb download for installation after July 29. in any case, figure out your backup strategy cuze you want a full back up of everything off of your system.

W10 is free if you have 7 or 8. The interface has the best of both 7 and 8 and is more keyboard/mouse friendly then 8.

I don't want the damned little boxes on my desktop.

if you have the update icon click it, before you upgrade your system will be checked for incompatibilities both hard and soft. One unfortunate, but logical consequence of W10’s white list is more software will be blocked that otherwise would be fine, until its oked by MS, even if the build is specifically done to solve an issue with W10.
