The NYPD has found a new Broken Windows crime, and it's being a man and taking up too much room on the subway. The feminists win again!
Gothamist writes that according to a new Police Reform Organizing Project report:
On a recent visit to the arraignment part in Brooklyn’s criminal court, PROP volunteers observed that police officers had arrested two Latino men on the charge of "man spreading" on the subway, presumably because they were taking up more than one seat and therefore inconveniencing other riders. Before issuing an [adjournment contemplating dismissal] for both men, the judge expressed her skepticism about the charge because of the time of the arrests: "12:11AM, I can't believe there were many people on the subway"
Still, the judge issued an "ACD," or adjournment in contemplation of dismissal, which means the charges will be dismissed if the defendants don't get arrested in the near future. Never mind the fact that the MTA considers manspreading more an etiquette faux pas than a crime: Gothamist points out that it's against the MTA code of conduct to "occupy more than one seat when to do so would interfere or tend to interfere with the comfort of other passengers," but it's highly doubtful the train was actually crowded after midnight.

I ride them each way to and from work all week long. First off while its called manspreading its not exclusive to males. Plenty of women will take the corner 2 seater and put a bag on one and pretend to never see people standing up around them.
Second it’s pretty hard to legislate common decency for people who were not raised with any.
