WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) The legendary Bob Schieffer is calling it a career Sunday as he hosts his last Face the Nation.
Schieffer joined CBS News in 1969 and in that span he covered the White House, State Department, Pentagon, Capitol Hill, anchored the CBS Evening News, and hosted Face the Nation the past 24 years.
Washington has changed dramatically when he began covering the nations capital. Schieffer told CBS This Morning on Friday that the revolution in communications has turned D.C. upside-down.
We now dont know where people get their news, but what we do know is theyre bombarded with information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most of the information is wrong and some of it is wrong on purpose, Schieffer said. It is our job, I think, in mainstream journalism to try to cut through this mall of information and tell people what we think is relevant in what they need to know. That is the job of the journalist and I have to say its harder and harder.

...
CBS News offers an irresistible early retirement deal once you hit 80.
So Bob, when did you start telling lies when reporting what other people wrote for you to say?
The American people truly believed “That’s the way it is,” though though it never was.
Hey, he started his career with SeeBS in 1969.
LOL! Your clarification is spot on!
Well then, there it is ....
“Being a gatekeeper to the NEWS is really hard. Especially since that darn Internet came along.”
“John Kerry: Internet Needs Stronger Regulations to Work Properly’”

The MSM and liberals are working on it.
The arrogance of this statement is only matched by its condescension!
The news media's job it to report accurately and completely. Informed people will do their own evaluations. Anything else is advocacy.

Since when? Just the facts A$$#0!&. The people will decide what they need to know.
The long running comedy show that spun off "The Daily Show" and "The Cobert Report."
LOL!!! That’s why they get run out to commielibland, no Open Season!!!
You feeling any better Mr. JRF ?
Another Texas liberal fossil in the mold of Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather . They can’t bury that bunch fast enough.
At least we exported them. Most of them. Well... some of them.
No kidding...
Back then the network execs were all terrified of Newton Minow.
I remember that scoundrel commenting on the start of the Republican convention, can't remember which one. He stated as the camera panned the convention floor, "Look at all the white people".
Sanctimonious liberal prick. /echo
wonder why the network execs never listed? ... and instead opted for lies by which they called the truth? ... always was surprised back then but am never surprised in this the present regarding the antics of media on television. From the 60s was surprised of the blatant lies but ... as Stalin would say ... It isn’t who reports the news but how often the news (lies) are believed.
And of course, the irony in all this is that newspaper reporters were saying the same thing about radio, newsreels, and television in Schieffer's parents' time.
To go from being upstart outsider to smug insider to irrelevant relic in one lifetime is something that happens a lot in the modern world.
listed should be listened
This is good, because it shows that at least some at the top of the MSM food-chain realize they are getting increasingly less relevant. The problem is largely of their own making as the persistent leftward bias has driven many from traditional news sources. When I was younger, I used to watch the Sunday news shows religiously. Stopped doing that around 1995.
While Schieffer tilts left, he is far from the worst. Scott Pelly tries to appear neutral, but generally does a poor job. Schieffer’s replacement (John Dickerson) is a real pissant—I don’t expect any real objectivity from him. I hope he crashes & burns like Dick Gregory did at “Meet the Press”.
