WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) The legendary Bob Schieffer is calling it a career Sunday as he hosts his last Face the Nation.
Schieffer joined CBS News in 1969 and in that span he covered the White House, State Department, Pentagon, Capitol Hill, anchored the CBS Evening News, and hosted Face the Nation the past 24 years.
Washington has changed dramatically when he began covering the nations capital. Schieffer told CBS This Morning on Friday that the revolution in communications has turned D.C. upside-down.
We now dont know where people get their news, but what we do know is theyre bombarded with information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most of the information is wrong and some of it is wrong on purpose, Schieffer said. It is our job, I think, in mainstream journalism to try to cut through this mall of information and tell people what we think is relevant in what they need to know. That is the job of the journalist and I have to say its harder and harder.

So much for any pretense of “who, what, when, where, why and how.”
I dont know where most people get their news anymore, because the traditional modern news outlets have gone the way of the buggy whip. Morning news is nothing but a two hour commercial for tonights programming or a new movie.
The cable stations are simply unwatchable—with Fox fawning over someone buy a Vet a cake (honorable, but not news) or be absolutely horrified by something Obama did. CNN is just as bad, but on the opposite side of the sliding scale.
The evening news is horrible. Human interest stories have taken the place of news.
Finally, the interjection of the drama and editorial comments by reporters is simply sickening. Of course, Shep the drama queen is the worst at this.
Just report what is going on.
It sickens me to say it, but perhaps the most unbiased news report I’ve seen lately is Al Jezzera America. Probably because they simply hate all things American.
it was evident even in the 60s ... television has forever been lying hacks telling Americans what to think and That’s the Way It Is!” per the walter concretes you into your river boots
Mr. Schieffer lives on a mental Elysium.
It’s not the News Reports, it’s Who decides what News to Report.
Stalin said, it isn’t the Votes, it’s Who Counts the Votes.
Thanks for letting me know that Bob Schieffer is retiring from Face the Nation. I wish him well. Just a couple of questions. Who’s Bob Schieffer? What’s Face the Nation?
Yes, thank goodness for the rise of the internet and the proliferation of popular conservative news sites, especially Free Republic.
Soon to be called God’s tombstones.
Wrong, it is your job to tell the news in an unbiased fashion, and we the people will decide what is relevant in what we need to know.
Good riddance you jerk.
Good riddance to bad rubbish!
“We Now Dont Know Where People Get Their News”
FR.
People like me get most of our news from Free Republic. It is the most relevant news, and the commentary from other Freepers is usually very insightful.
He certainly is.
the people dont need your insight —
Bob, we don’t need to see your 360-degree view of warm, brown, smelly surroundings.
“and tell people what we think is relevant in what they need to know”
What the central committee thinks I need to know for their purposes, and what I need to know to be informed are two different things. Using a variety of sources with known biases helps me get there. (Yes, I’ll even read what is on CNN and USA Today, because I know their bias.)
The job of a ‘reporter’ is to help his network move product.
Period.
Bob’s lying about his own industry, just as any salesman is inclined to do.
This decades-long apologist for the Democrat Party finally quits.
Big whoop !
My translation...
Being a gatekeeper to the NEWS is really hard. Especially since that darn Internet came along.
I’m out-a-here.
