There have been many variations on this particular noir storyline. Body Heat, The Last Seduction, and so on. IMHO, though, D.I. remains the best of the bunch. In no small part because of the presence of Fred MacMurray. MacMurray was one of the most underrated actors of all time. So many tremendous performances - Indemnity, The Apartment, The Caine Mutiny, etc. And when you add in Edward G. Robinson and Barbara Stanwick, well, you've just got a masterpiece on your hands! 8.5/10.

BTW, Zippcast can be kind of cranky when loading - they haven’t worked the bugs out, apparently. If the video doesn’t play, try reloading the screen.

Me too. Have watched it multiple time.

“I wonder if I know what you mean?”

“I wonder if you wonder.”

Perfection.

Yes and I had never seen him in a movie until ths one. I knew him as the dad on my three sons. Also the model for Shazam.

I recommend the “Cain Mutiny”, in which he was very good.

I recommend the “Cain Mutiny”, in which he was very good.

An enduring classic that's held up well over the years. In both "Double Indemnity" and "Cain Mutiny", Fred MacMurray plays the heavy very well. In the latter, he's scheming all the while and deserved the champagne in the face at the end. For those who only know his avuncular side from "My Three Sons", he was a superb serious actor. And I think the picture below captures that aspect of him well.

Well put.

Other than the Cain Mutiny and a few other films, he sure was a likeable guy.
