Sympathy for the Devil in all its variations represents the Boomers acme and epitaph.
[Embedded Video: The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil (Live) - OFFICIAL ]
I last saw the Stones perform this at Altamont, where it was accompanied by pool cue bludgeoning and a lethal stabbing. I sort of last my taste for it after that concert, but I check in on variations from the Stones' endless tours from time to time.
More and more the penultimate line,
"Just as every cop is a criminal /
And all the sinners saints"
seems to be prophetic of this Baltimore spring.
This particular performance is from 2006.
Lately it occurs to me that the most frightening thought is that the Rolling Stones might just outlive all of the rest of us.
Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul to waste

Gimme shelter is better.
‘Who killed the bucktoothed Kennedy’s,
When after all, it was you and me.’
Why that’s just crazy talk.
Ozzie rabbit and Sirhan squared done doed it.
I was busy learning knots in Cub scouts.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
“I last saw the Stones perform this at Altamont”
Me too.
Another boomer anthem: “We’re Not Gonna Take It”.

RUSH - “I Think I’m Going Bald”
Actually lots of the words ring true for an older person:
“getting so involved in life”
“walking down memory lane”
“what price having peace of mind”
Funny - they must have been all of 24 when they wrote this!
Maybe not when it was first being heard in the early ‘70’s over the air waves but “Reeling In The Years” by Steely Dan seems to qualify as another one of those anthems.
I like the Stones, but “Sympathy” is easily one of their worst and overrated songs. Dirge-like tempo, minimalist melody, and turgid lyrics.
It’s pretty shocking that a boomer generation “artist” would describe the devil’s evil deeds and strategy so openly. Not shocking to see the mind numbed dummies knowingly or unknowingly cheering for the devil at that concert.
Lennon’s “Imagine” song is another boomer anthem mess. It imagines the human mentality that would usher in the devil. “Imagine all the people, living for today.” It is the hilt of self centered stupidity and doom as a society lives with no care for the future (those who follow) and no care for the wisdom of the past (those who came before you.) That is where we are now. Some Boomers look at that song as a holy ideal for humanity. Peace.
Wonder what God has to say to these souls when they cross over. “Artists” have abused a lot of power and stole a lot of souls for the devil.
I won’t go deeply into Boomer artistic “progress” - rap - uncontrolled immediate gratification - hate, coveting, ego, thievery, ravishing, rape and murder and outright satanism.
Yep, I tossed a lot of records when I became a Christian.
Oh for Gods sake it’s not about celebrating Satan
It’s commentary on evil and Satan behind atrocities
I swear....I mean really
Keith Richards wife is rather openly devout Christian and he credits her with being an extremely positive force in his life
When she had a cancer scare a few years back he came unglued....he worships her....a former model from Connecticut
He is no Satan worshipper
Jagger worships money and....well...girl parts...don’t want to offend you but it’s colloquial for a little kitten
People said this same stuff about rock music 50 years ago
Are their satan worshippers who make rock music...yes I have heard there are some who at least claim to be but so far Satan ain’t helped them go platinum
