Blogger thinks that Microsoft is going to do free distribution of Windows 10 better than Apple does free distribution of OS X, because Apple sometimes has "problems" with the initial versions when it is distributed. . . and some who have older versions of OS X four versions back may have to actually spend $19.95 to get on the Free update train. . . PING!

IN HANDLING FREE OS DISTRIBUTION
Ping!

If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.

I challenge the members of the Apple ping list to each donate at least $10 each to the latest Freepathon. I HAVE donated $100. Many members of the Apple Ping list are already rising to the challenge. Join them. Let's show the power of the Apple Ping list in supporting Freerepublic!

If you have ordered an Apple Watch,

Having worked with every version of Windows 10 Technical Preview so far on both my spare Lenovo laptop and my Lumia 1520 Phone, I can tell you that MS is onto something big.

Apple made using iOS easy across phone and iPad. That translated to many phone users buying iPads. Familiarity.

MS is now making your PC, laptop, tablet, phone and Xbox all familiar to the user.

Convergence of hardware and software is coming, regardless. MS is just ahead of Apple and Google on that.

For now.

>>Yes, we can thank Apple for applying the screws to Microsoft just enough so that it will be releasing Windows 10 for free. <<

The leapfrogging. I think it is great Apple, Android and Windows continue to push each other.

Ignorant writer. ALL of the Mac OSes up until System 7.x were “free” until the failed experiment of allowing a few Mac clones. Apple could “give away” the OS , because it sold hardware. Outside of special devices, xbox, nokia phones, surface. MS does not have that advantage. They are playing it smart, however, as ghe big momey is in the Enterprise, and making the terms of Win 10 irresistable will beef up their hold and ultimately reduce support costs.

I'm using 7 at the moment.

When 7 is no longer usable (or becomes even less secure), I'll be migrating to Mac.

“Who wouldn’t try Microsoft’s version of free, especially since its predecessors that cost money are running on the overwhelming majority of business machines around the world?”

Anyone running Windows older than version 7.
Anyone running OS X.

IIRC/AFAIK, the majority of Windows machines can’t run 10.

Several FReepers have reported that 10 is nothing more than turd polishing of Win 8.

No way, no how will I touch it. That youtube shows it still has that idiot smartphone look to it as well, just to cement the disgust factor.

In the not-too-distant future we will laugh at the concept of buying an operating system.

Just as Apple, over time, embraced Intel processors and became more “compatible” with 3rd party hardware, Windows will, over time, tighten up “what will run under Windows” requirements and become more like the Apple ecosystem. In other words - Mac has become a little more Windows-like and Windows will become a little more Mac-like.

All of that will lead to free operating systems. Why? Paying for an operating system will be an impediment to jumping from one eco-system to another. The one main advantage that Apple has, currently, is that you cannot run OSX on non-Mac hardware, but you can run Windows on Mac hardware. When you buy a Mac you have the capability of running all Windows and Mac software, but when you go with a Windows PC you are stuck with just Windows.
