Indian Motorcycles Announces Special Scout Series, Leads with Awesome Military Scout

Indian Motorcycle has announced that through 2015, it will roll out a series of custom Indian Scouts designed and built by some of America’s top custom bike builders. Each will be designed to celebrate an important Indian Scout milestone since the model’s orignial debut in 1920. Each of the custom Scouts will be accompanied by vignettes to share the legacy of the Indian Scout.

Leading off the series is the the Custom Military Scout, which will be accompanied by a vignette narrated by Mark Wahlberg. The Custom Military Scout was designed and built by custom builder Klock Werks Kustom Cycles of Mitchell, South Dakota.

The company says the Custom Military Scout recalls the company’s nearly 100-year history of supporting the U.S. Military and to celebrate Indian Motorcycle’s partnership with USO.

In the '60s I had a bicycle based on the Indian Scout. It came with a plastic Thompson that lit up and made noise. I loved it as a bitty boy. ;)

Be advised. This isn’t the original Indian Motorcycle company. It’s a company that bought their name from them to get instant street cred.

It’s about about the same weight as the fake WWII bike and has twice the horsepower. So I would say it’s good to go.

Harley isn't the original company either, or Colt, or S&W, or Ford, or GM. No company can be the "original company" if it's going to be around very long.

Indian Motorcycle company has original engineering along with the heart and soul of the original Indian, unlike the last couple of owners.

I’ll bet they’d work it out for you-—or me. What I’ll never understand is why they quit putting scabbards on them. Just seems necessary to me. Even my mountain bicycle has a rifle rack. Just part of being fully dressed.

Working in Springfield for many years I am familiar with the original Factory Plant some of the original buildings still survive. There was a Indian Motorcycle Museum there also in but I am not sure if it is still there. Funny how they are bringing back a military bike, it was part of Indians downfall that they were so intertwined with military production that they lost a lot of their Dealers because they could not supply Bikes for the civilian market, and of course H-D was able to. One regret I have is when a friend offered me a upright trade, his Chief for my BSA Royal Star! I turned him down and have kicked myself everafter.

And then Sammy Pierce took over, My father and his friends were all friends of his. When Sammy moved from Monrovia to San Gabriel, he opened up a store on San Gabriel Blvd, and bought the House across the street. The Indian Motorcycles from 1963ish to 1973 were built at 712 E Fairview Ave, San Gabriel, he then rolled them across the street to the showroom.

My Father Bought his House during the divorce and we ran our business there for 40 years til he passed and I sold it last year. Yep I sat in the Indian Motorcycles Office every day for 40 years. Both Garages out back was the production line.

And for a little more trivia, after Sammy closed up a young man moved in and took over the place next door also, he was an up and coming High Performance Engine Builder trying to make a name for himself. His name was Gale Banks.

I knew both of these people.
