The unmistakable roar of American warplanes that helped the Allies win World War II will thunder over Washington on Friday to mark the 70th anniversary of Nazi Germany's defeat.
From 12:10 pm (1610 GMT), for 45 minutes, 56 restored "warbirds" will fly in formation down the Potomac River, past the Lincoln Memorial and over the National Mall, the nation's symbolic front lawn.
Up to 10,000 people are expected to watch the spectacle -- including 300 to 500 of the last surviving veterans of the 1939-45 conflict that the United States entered in December 1941 with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Thanks for the post. I tweeted the link, so we may remember our heroes.
You are welcome.
I saw some practicing today, flying over Fauquier County. It was thrilling. I wish I could view the entire procession but will have to make do with just these four, flying nobly together.

I hope the right windows are rattled.
It appears (from the map on their website) that they will come south along the Potomac to reach the Mall.

Last week was the Chino CA. airports annual event. A lot of Mustangs, and Corsairs, but the highlite was the P-38 and the B-25 Mitchell bomber taking multiple passes directly over my house at about 600ft up. The final Heritage flight with the, P-38, F-22 Raptor, Mustang and old Korean era jet was very cool as well.
As for this DC event, its to bad some of the planes won’t have some live ammo to burn that city down sans a few monuments.
We have an air show here in October. The Planes of Fame people fly right over the house. I love the sound of their engines! We went there a lot when the kids were young.
I will be there.
