If she had a pixie haircut, she would be the hottest elf.
She was only on the first part of the first season of Star Trek. She left the show under mysterious circumstances. It is very unusual to leave a show in mid season.
aw man, I had such a crush on Yeoman Rand! RIP.
Whitney struggled with alcoholism for many years after Trek, along with several other issues, including drifting towards becoming a prostitute (stories vary on that count).
Fortunately for her, she was able to seek help and regain her sobriety in the 1970s. She often pointed to an embrace of faith and, in her words, “giving herself over to God” as the keys to her success. At any rate, she was able to reclaim her life, and re-emerged with roles in the TOS Trek films and a couple guest appearances in several of the later tv series’.
RIP, Ms. Whitney.
I remember she also said she had a drinking problem, probably a result of being raped.
by Roddenberry??
j/k
WTF!!
Rest in peace < |:(~
Over the years, as I’ve viewed other items that Roddenberry wrote or produced (including his earlier series “The Lieutenant”), prior to Trek, I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a single one in which female characters are particularly well presented. He seemed to write them all as rather two-dimensional entities, as either airheads or sexpots.
The Enterprise could have beamed down on her Hair Hat.
RIP There will never be another Star Trek.
Well, he never came across as a nice guy.
RIP and prayers for her family.
Both actresses that played Nurse Chapel and Uhura were sleeping with the boss Gene Roddenberry.
Gene Coon who did much of the writing and directing once walked into Roddenberry’s office to talk to him about something and while they were talking in comes Uhura from the next room wearing just a shirt that belong to Roddenberry....
From what I have read on Roddenberry he was quite the user of drugs which caused the studio to sidetrack him from the future Star Trek movies as he became erratic.
The story SHE TOLD on a tv show several years ago was, She was called in and told she was being fired, BUT she could save her job if she “put out”.
To save her job, she did. Then she was fired anyway.
After “Star Trek” Roddenberry wrote a screenplay for an R rated movie that involved teachers having sex with students and murders of female students. He’s listed as producer of the film as well.
I saw enough of the film not to want to see it again. Its sick and toxic. The guy that married Brigitte Bardot and Jane Fonda and got them naked on the movie screens, Roger Vadim, was the director.
BTW James Doohan got a part in the movie.
This is a very dark side of Gene Roddenberry.
She claims she was sexually abused (raped) and I’m glad to read what you posted about her sobriety and God.
There’s a woman out there who writes about recovery from addiction-codependency named Melody Beattie and I remember reading one of her books saying something to the effect that sexual abuse qualifies one to attend sex addiction meetings.
There was a lot of insanity going on 50 years ago when the “sexual revolution” hit and now we read stories about celebrities in the UK (Jimmy Saville and others) and Bill Cosby in the US doing crazy things back then.
I messed with booze and inhalants myself in the early 70’s and God helps me to say sober one day at a time.
RIP.
Hard to believe Scotty was a WWII vet and was at Normandy for the big invasion. I think he was a Sword or Juno beach, not sure. Great soldier, great Chief of Engineering! RIP too.
