I see this in my building. The 0-5 age group is getting more numerous every day. While the overall birth rate is declining in New York, this is mostly due to the middle class in Brooklyn and Queens. But surprisingly, the lowest birth rate in NYC is among blacks. I guess the taxes are beginning to bite everyone.

I think NYC is a great place to raise kids if you can afford it. I was tempted when my kids were young, perhaps I made a mistake in turning down the job offer.

The wealthy have been reproducing for a while.
