A Utah man is suing the local police force after one of its dogs attacked him during an arrest, after he had put his hands up and surrendered.
Martin Lee Hoogveldt, 33, had already given himself up after armed police entered his home in response to a disturbing-the-peace complaint in 2013, but the dog still jumped at him, clamping its jaws around his face.
The dog handler's body camera captured the horrific attack, and can be seen struggling to get the dog, a German shepherd called Pyro, to let go of Hoogveldt's face.

WTF???
“You may be reflecting the attitude engendered by constant media presentations of police bungling. “
I threw away my TV during the OJ trial. I haven’t watched the news, other than being exposed in doctor’s offices and the like, since then.
I’ve done the same thing, burned them to avoid a tinderbox dead tree laying around. When dry they go up like it’s soaked in fuel, takes 2 seconds.
I quit buying dead trees many years ago...
Three thugs and a vicious dog force their way into a home........
No, where judging them by the 7 or 8 stupid incidences that have happened relatively recently.
Per the article:
“West Jordan police told the Salt Lake Tribune that the body camera footage ‘shows only one aspect of the entire incident and that Hoogveldt resisted arrest’.”
Spin, Spin Spin... By not standing up while he had his hands high in the air? Ever try to do that?
The West Jordan Police Department says officers were at risk. They said in a written release that in the weeks before the arrest, Hoogveldt had exhibited violent behavior that included an aggravated assault with a weapon and another time was found in possession of a concealed weapon by officers.
In the Christmas tree incident, Hoogveldt had threatened neighbors with a knife and started fires twice at a neighbor's home, according to the police. A fire was burning behind Hoogveldt's house as police approached, the release says, and "to protect the neighborhood and before the fire department could come in, officers had to secure Mr. Hoogveldt."
The officers say a large empty knife sheath on a table and believed that because of his history, Hoogveldt would pose a "lethal threat" if they approached him and sent in the dog to detain him, the release says.
So now de-facing = detaining.....
I would guess that, not wasting his life by licking 1,530,000 separate boots, the poster has had time to think his position through and come to the conclusion he has.
So the guy is thought to’ve burned a Christmas tress in his back yard - an you come after him with guns drawn and an attack dog!!!!!
thank goodness we’re being protected from such hardened criminals!
Used to be, for something like this, police would knock on the door and talk with the person - not approach him as if we an escaped murderer.
The damned Germans, either at your feet or at your throat.
Next time you disturb the peace, remember to practice your headshots...
Vendome, I thought I was the only one who thought this vicious animal needed destroying.
I’m not sure I understand what you posted.
Was he arrested for aggravated assault with a weapon, arrested for a concealed weapons and arrested for arson weeks prior to the Christmas tree incident?
well said...as a dog lover even I know the difference between a human being and a animal.
Yep.
At the end of the video the cop has him at a hospital condescending to the guy and lecturing him.
Jerk off...
I don’t see any exigency for their actions.
Anyone know why the suspect had handcuffs on prior to the cops entering the room?
It’s in the video.
I’ll go like gun grabbers do. The dog is the evil thing. The user is immaterial. :0)
——Just because there is a badge and fancy uniform doesn’t mean they have the power. They, and you, like it when they do.——
That last sentence is uncalled for...and wrong to boot...
My only point was: three cops and a K9 unit walk into my home and ask me to stand up....
I would comply even if I knew how wrong it was and a violation of my rights...at the moment...
The odds are not in my favor...
Live to fight another day is prudent...
