NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. -- In retrospect, the van probably stood out from the usual bustle of traffic the police officer was watching.
Late Monday morning an officer was monitoring traffic crossing the Homer Bridge at Queenston St. in St. Catharines, when the officer's "attention was drawn" to a 2000 Dodge Caravan that was in need of some repair, according to a Niagara Regional Police press release.
The van in question was missing doors and windows, had "numerous items sticking out the sides," and had a wooden stool tied to the roof.
On the tailgate was a sign that read "slow moving vehicle."
Police stopped the van, and the driver admitted his licence was suspended. Further inquires by police revealed he had been stopped in the same ramshackle van two weeks previously in Fort Erie.
Police charged the 66-year-old driver with seven violations of the Highway Traffic Act, including driving while under suspension, not have vehicle insurance, operating an unsafe vehicle, not having plates and prohibited use of a slow moving vehicle sign.
