3 Student-Designed Pavilions from DS10 to be Built at Burning Man

Three students from Diploma Studio 10 (DS10) at the University of Westminster have received grants to see their designs realized at this year’s Burning Man festival. The projects - The Infinity Tree, Reflection, and Bismuth Bivouac - are temporary pavilions that will provide respite for festival-goers, each with a unique experiential quality to captivate the masses.

Drawing upon the 2015 Burning Man theme “Carnival of Mirrors,” the three pavilions will explore the illusory and enchanting qualities of old-fashioned carnival culture while serving as functional spaces of rest and shelter from the Black Rock Desert sun. These and other installations will make up a “temporary metropolis” from August 30 to September 7.

One of the best episodes of “Malcolm in the Middle” was about “Burning Man”. I loved it.

Don’t build anything for storm victims, vets, refugees or homeless people. Build pavilions for trustafarians at a weird festival. That shows that you care for those less fortunate.

They’re lucky, as their names will probably be displayed. I went to the Kent State Architectural School, and everything I did as a student, they owned. As a Freshman, I designed a modular Grade School system. Twenty years later, I pulled into a small town South of here, and lo and behold, there was my school! I wonder how many them were built?

One of these days I’m going to to Burning Man.

Have friends who have gone and they had a great time.

I went to a school in Broward County, Florida that was being studied by educators and administrators from all over the planet circa 1969 or so. Same one?

They get “special treatment” at every other venue, why should Burning Man be any different?

I saw that episode. Malcolm in the Middle is one of the more under rated shows. I thinks the plots were to hard for the simpletons to follow.

And to think Malcolm's dad went on to make copious amounts of high grade meth.
