Since you use a Mac, then at some point youve likely run into the mention of a Permissions Fix as a solution to just about any problemslowdowns, random crashes, your Mac not booting up. Because it can refer to a bunch of different problems, hearing this term might leave you wondering what it is, what permissions are, and whether or not you actually need to run this routine on your Mac

If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
I have been threatened in a vile Freepmail by a member of Freerepublic that if I post anything again, he will offer Jim Robinson $2000 to banish me permanently from Freerepublic on the grounds I am, according to him a "faggot," I am not homosexual, my girlfriend finds that uproariously hilarious, as do my two daughters. He claims this because I use Apple products and ping the 700 members of the Apple/Mac/iPhone/iPad/iOS ping list to articles about those topics. . . Which he maintains come from a "faggot" company. He maintains all Apple users are "faggots."
I challenge the members of the Apple ping list to each donate at least $10 each to the latest Freepathon to counter such extortion. I will be donating $100. Let's show the power of the Apple Ping list in supporting Freerepublic!
I’m sad to read this.
FReepers please remember FR is a place to discuss things. It is the website I find myself returning to again and again.
That sort of treatment has no place here. I have disagreed with Swordmaker on occasion but I find his posts valuable and I support him 100%.
Don’t know who he’s talking about, but to that person I just say: please ease up.
We’re all on basically the same side.
One has to wonder how someone can become so obsessed with a brand or the hatred of a brand that they resort to a personal attack. I'd have to guess that this individual has some emotional or phycological issues that go well beyond his hatred of all things Apple. Perhaps he's light in the loafers. Not that there's anything wrong with that! No sir!
BTW. I for one appreciate the Apple articles you post, and am making another $10 donation to show my support.
I note you've been here since 2001. Prior to your arrival there was a poster named "JimGib." He was obsessed with Ross Perot. Anyone who spoke and unkind word of his hero was immediately put upon. He actually called me a "dung beetle! LOL! A very amusing character. One of many who have fallen by the wayside over the years.
I have used both Apple and Microsoft products. And will continue to do so...
I’d like to see something on permissions repair for the iPad. Having some problems with my 1st gen .
I’ve got the latest OS, which is 5.something.
As for the kook, get a life buddy and see a professional.
Set check to FR yesterday.
In for (additional) 20 . . .
(Swordmaker challenge noted)
Challenge accepted.
Be glad to help FreeRepublic and support Mac users. I’m confident there are gays working at Samsung, Google, Oracle and Microsoft. Tim Cook is a figure head but not immune to the board of directors & stock holders. It is disappointing when companies get involved in social politics and make a stand to side with one group over another group especially when there’s a real life contradiction caused by cultural differences in other countries they do business with around the world.
The anti-Apple people have reached new lows.
The jerk who said this to you should “out” himself rather than hide.
I’m amazing to me that they cannot identify a phone or a computer et al as being just that, a phone or a computer. Allow us to enjoy our gadgets just as you enjoy yours.
The macbook I use now--never had the problem. (knock on wood)
Apple isn't perfect. They do have their share of lemons. A lot smaller share, but it's there. . . and they willl usually do somehing about it, even after the warranty expires. I had a client that had a Apple Macbook Pro that kept failing with a similar problem time after time. . . and had documented it. She kept taking it to a 3rd party Apple warranty station who fixed it first under warranty and then later charged her for the fix. Finally when an Apple store opened near her she took it there with me. The took to the back and came back about 30 minutes later and told her they couldn't fix it. . . and recommended a new MacBook Pro. She said she was afraid of that. . . and asked how much that was going to cost. The Genius said, "Give me a few more minutes." She called her bank to arrange for an increase on her credit line. Twenty minutes later the Genius came back with a brand new MacBook Pro and handed it to her, saying "There you go, no charge. We transferred all your apps and data from your old one. Do you mind if we keep the old one? we'll wipe the hard drive while you watch if you care." My client's was flabbergasted. They gave her a brand niw MacBook Pro at a time when that was a $2000 computer in exchange for an out-of-warranty four year old one. That's customer service.
The old operating systems were great, IMO. I could easily fix those myself. Somehow, someway.
Permission fixes on an iPad don't happen. The way to do it is to back up your files to a computer, a Mac or PC via iTunes, then restore your iPad to factory by re-installing the latest iOS system files and then restoring your settings, apps, and data. That process will set all the permissions correctly. The iPad, not being a multi-user device, isn't too susceptible to permission problems. Does that help?
I'm a monthly donor, and donate more in Freepathons. I'll donate $100 on your behalf. Who is the fudge-packer harassing you? Swordmaker, you provide a valuable service to us on Free Republic. The troublemaker is nothing but a jerk, idiot, and so full of bile that he is destroying this site. I used to think that Free Republic was a wonderful site of conservatives who could debate rationally and keep things mellow between us. Lately, that has not been the case because of fools like the Apple-haters who are so vile. Because of that, I haven't been donating as much as in earlier years. This used to be a wonderful place. Please name the bad Freeper publicly and I'll donate $200. He probably gives nothing to support this site.
If it helps, even Microsoft Windows 7 has issue with needing admin access (take ownership) to delete, rename etc. a file even though you have it.... sort of. I currently have this issue on Windows 10 using Oracle virtualbox.
The fix for Windows 7 is too convoluted to explain.
I remember getting someone’s script to resolve it.
Here is an explanation and the script (in case you switch to Windows : )

How come hackers have no issues! : )
I can use iTunes and sync it, but not from the devices. My iPad has kind of the same problem, but it says the last backup was back in Dec, I haven't tried a restore on it yet.
I’m not fond of Apple politics, but they make great products. I don’t worship them, I just enjoy their products.
It would be nice if every quality product had a conservative company behind it, but that’s not the case. If I boycotted every liberal company, I’d be living in a cave.
FR is my top resource for Apple news and I appreciate what Swordmaker does for us here. (Yes, he’s a bit of a cheerleader for Apple, and sometimes an apologist, but we all have our biases.)
