As one executive puts it, if Star Wars: The Force Awakens doesn't score the biggest debut ever when it hits theaters Dec. 18, he'll "run up and down Sunset Boulevard naked." So how high could J.J. Abrams' reboot fly? The top U.S. opening is The Avengers, which launched to $207.4 million in May 2012 from 4,349 theaters. Disney's sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1), could become the new champ, but many believe Force Awakens has every chance of outrunning them both, even with the distraction of Christmas. Globally it could rake in nearly $540 million, topping the three-day record set by the final Harry Potter film ($483.2 million). "If it pleases the fans of the old movies and also appeals to kids, watch out," says box-office analyst Phil Contrino.

Just watched the newest trailer. Hard to tell everything from the little info here, but it feels so much better than 1-3. More loyal to originals, but with modern effects. Hopeful it will be great. JJ Abrams is a good filmmaker.
After the last three Lucas crapfests I would need a whole lot of convincing before I spent any of my limited cash for a ticket.

Well, here's one tidbit that might make you more likely to see it: George Lucas is not involved with the writing or directing of this film.
Minus the original "Star Wars", which was mostly notable for its technical achievements, you can rank the movies pretty easily in reverse order of the amount that Lucas was directly involved in writing the screenplay or directing, i.e., "The Empire Strikes Back" is the best film to date, and "The Phantom Menace" is the worst.
Anybody know if rumor is true, that there will be a gay character in the new Star Wars???
C3PO has been in all the Star Wars movies.
I thought in one of the off shoots but not this upcoming movie.
