Goats are the new hipster thing. I visited a local town a couple of weeks ago where a goats are THE town biz. Old, cotton town. Nothing there except a couple of stores selling Patagonia jackets, overpriced goat cheese food, and ‘artisan’ crap.

I’d get a goat but it would clean up my land then chew the vinyl siding off my house, chew my cedar fence and wreck my AC pump unit and electricute itself chewing on the wires.
I had one when I was a kid and it rammed me off the garage roof!
Got up there by the wood pile.

Our city puts a herd of goats in the empty lot at the end of our street once a year to “mow” it down. It’s less than 24 hours, and then they move on to a neighboring hillside that is unmowable due to steep terrain.
I love it. We get to see the cute animals, and then they go home before they do anything annoying.

Goats are not as benign as writers like to make them out to be.
We live in a CA town which switched from mechanical mowers to goats to maintain a local park. We used to walk our dogs there, and discovered that when goats ate 18” high grass and weeds, they left behind a 2” layer of little goat berries, i.e. goat dung.
From a distance, this looks just fine, but up close it is a nightmare. And don’t even ask about what happens in the rain, when dried pellets become reconstituted goat manure.
