Good little popcorn movie. Well-acted, sharply done carrier activity scenes, and just a fun premise. 7/10.

We should have nuked the Japs back then (in the movie). That would be a more satisfying ending. Would have saved my father-in-law a long and bloody trek across the Pacific to Iwo and Okinawa in real life.

saw it a few years ago....very good movie...no over dramatization...good acting....
I want to recommend two modern movies....Interstellar was excellent and so was the Imitation Game ( some reference to homosexuality but not overwhelming)

I spoke to one of the guys flying the Zeros (PT19s) in the scene where the jet flies between two of Zeros.
There were 6 or so based out of Clover Field south of Houston TX in the late 70’s early 80’s.
He said they were warned that there would be quite a vortex coming off of the ends of the wings.
He said there was what seemed like an eternity when he was just a passenger waiting to regain control.

This is one of my 5 all time favorite movies.
I have pedestrian taste, unapologetically so, so don’t bother.

I watched it during Navy Recruit Training, probably in December, definitely 1980. Needless to say it was a friendly audience and the film was well received.

This was the very first movie I rented on VHS. With the way it bridges the two genres of WWII war films and sci-fi, I can’t help but like it.

Horrible ending. How could you not show the battle???
What a cop out!
Give the people what they want. The sequels would have been awesome as the carrier moves on to Germany.
Here is a question: Could one carrier win the war by itself if it did not have nukes? F-15’s are great but where do you get the replacement ammo and fuel in 1941? Would have been a great TV series as the US struggles to create ammo and jet fuel that would work.
