Wildlife officials armed with shotguns will be increasing patrols of Palm Beach County canals from once a month to four to six times a month to try to hunt the reptiles down, according to the Sun Sentinel. The plan is to catch or shoot the lizards on sight — they've got 20 in Palm Beach since July.

I do like reptiles, but he’s very bad for eating cats, so until he mends his ways, I withhold my scratch.
(He is cute, though).
FWIW, it would have to be a very large monitor and a very small cat, and even then it’d probably prefer easier prey.

Shoot those ugly things! And the Burmese pythons, and the African rock pythons, and all the other dangerous non-indig crap idiots dumped out into Florida wilderness. They give legitimate lizard keepers a bad name. And, kitties should be safe from those monsters.
