My first-ever vanity post... After some amount of web-surfing, it sounds like the IRS is claiming that processing tax returns and issuing refunds may be expected to take longer than normal. They blame this variously on a long-ago shutdown , Obamacare, and lack of funding.
So I'm soliciting actual FReeper experiences with 2014 tax refunds and how long it took to get them.
If you filed and received your refund, I'd be interested to know roughly when you filed and how long it took.
If you filed and HAVEN'T yet received a refund, same thing.
Full disclosure: I e-filed last weekend and am just wondering how long to expect to wait.
Are you joking?
I did mine in late Feb and the refund posted in 7 days, a new personal record for me. Filed electronically, 1040 long form.
They are still working on the logic to put the Minus Sign ‘-’ in front of the amounts.
That's hillarious. If you want to how we get out of paying "our fair share", it's not much of a secret.
Create an LLC and make if profitable (side business). This gives you opportunities to write off a lot more. And it's legal. It is not cheating. Rental properties, Computer tech, firewood, cutting grass, etc. all qualify.
I e-filed in February and had a refund in my bank account in four days. That really blew me away!
I got mine [both uS and CA in just over a week.
Refund means OVER-paid...
But I’ll bet you knew that...
That is cold and not helpful.
One of the greatest things that is positive from obamacare is that parasites who don’t buy insurance are all on tax returns that get “unearned” income tax credits ( wealth transfer) . !! The penalties for their not buying health insurance crap from the communist system are taken out of their “unearned” income tax credit.!! This is so great! I have tax preparer friends that are keeping a tally of the money not going to the parasites and being returned to the working class — It is in the millions!! Multi millions and Billions nationwide. Im sure that the Rino’s will come to the aid of the parasites. but for now it is the Joy of my life!! Next year is even greater!!!
Not if you get EIC which is a big joke that some of you get.
Almost all accountants, etc, file electronically. Mine was in abut 8 0r 9 days.
Filing the old snail mail way may take waaaayyyy longer.
I love the idiots who get a refund check and think somehow they screwed over the government.
I don’t think so. We have a lot of takers in America and perhaps some are here.
I saw yesterday that California is working on adding a “state” EITC of 30% of the federal amount.
Refund? What stinking refund?
We had a lousy experience last year. We had to file an amended return after the CPA’s office inadvertently e-filed our return that lacked medical and other large deductions yet, when we had asked them to file an extension. So we were told we had to manually file the amended return, which took about 6 or 7 months to get processed. Meantime, the IRS sent scary notices and twice raided our bank account for the “money we owed”, which of course was an error, we had a refund coming. I had not known you couldn’t e-file an amended return, lesson learned!
What the devil are you talking about? We pay our taxes with every paycheck via withholding. Getting a refund merely means that you overpaid and gave the government an interest-free loan with that extra money.
Or were you just trying to be sarcastic?
Filed mine on February 14th. Still have not received it. I have received the State refund. Got a letter from the IRS requesting information that was already provided with the federal form. It was a form letter that was pretty ambiguous.
He’s not being sarcastic. There’s quite a contingent on FR who believes VERY strongly that if you get the EITC, you forfeit your right to vote. In fact they believe that it should be the law that you have to go three years without government assistance of ANY kind to be able to vote in ANY election.
