NY Times: Samsung finally seems to understand the many criticisms that have long been leveled at its phones: the plastic hardware looked cheap, the most promoted features were mostly useless and the software was too complicated,” Farhad Manjoo writes for The New York Times. “Samsung, according to Samsung, has realized the errors of it ways.”
“The realization was born out of necessity. Samsungs market share and profits in the smartphone business have plummeted over the last year. The company, which is based in South Korea, is in the unenviable position of getting squeezed from the bottom by the affordable phones made by Chinese upstarts like Xiaomi and at the top by Apples powerhouse line of iPhones,” Manjoo writes. “Despite improved hardware, the S6 and S6 Edge still lack compelling software. Unlike Apple, Samsung has never managed to create a built-in suite of software and services to keep people hooked to its own phones. And there are few obvious ways for Samsung to address this glaring flaw.”
The S6 and S6 Edge “are still something of a pain to use. The S6 and S6 Edge run Samsungs modified version of Googles Android operating system. Despite Samsungs engineers efforts to clean up the software, the phones interface is a hodgepodge of odd design decisions and overly complicated functions… They sell for about the same price as Apples latest devices, $199 and up with a two-year contract, or more than $650 without a contract,” Manjoo writes. “If you pay the premium price to Apple, you get a phone with a well-designed operating system, no overlapping preloaded apps, and a host of services that often work very well, like iMessage, Apple Pay and expanding compatibilities with Apples personal computers and devices like the Apple TV and, soon, the Apple Watch. You can criticize Apples sticky ecosystem as a form of consumer lock-in, but Apple sure has built a luxurious prison, and customers are willing to pay extra for it. If you pay that premium to Samsung, you dont get a whole lot more than you can get on, say, a phone made by Xiaomi, OnePlus or any of a dozen smaller players.”

AND WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THIS THREAD YOU SELF-RIGHTEOUS HYPOCRITE?
foreign corporations set up “American subsidiaries” and donate lots of cash to political endeavors.
http://www.wnyc.org/story/181667-explainer-can-foreign-companies-make-political-donations/
So does Microsoft, Google (Android), FaceBook, Twitter, Yelp, etc, and quite a few other high-tech consumer electronics companies. . . only they have been doing it longer. Microsoft started supporting the LGBT legislative agenda with CASH contributions in 2005.
Apple has only joined this year, but was completely out of the fray except for their independent Apple Employees Political Action Committee making donations. . . which was NOT under Apple Inc control. Apple is getting an inordinate amount of headlines because Apple ALWAYS gets an inordinate amount of headlines because Apple garners attention and clicks on-line, plus the CEO is gay.
This is a George Soros/media manufactured "tempest in a Teapot" designed for the upcoming elections. . . a LITMUS TEST to disqualify every Conservative Republican candidate for any public office who I can guarantee will be asked what his or her position is on the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act, yes or no. . . and no matter what they answer it will not be the right answer for someone, somewhere. Just as on here it has set conservatives against conservatives. THIS IS DELIBERATE!
I believe those American Subsidiaries have to be publicly traded. . . in the US. Makes it more difficult, but you are right. However, that list is not comprehensive in that it does not include membership in many organizational signatories. I note it is missing quite of few supports such as NASCAR and the NBA. . . so it is not inclusive of all the supporters. Samsung's presence in the US is fairly small so may not have gotten around to it. . . and may not have been approached as their management IS in S. Korea.
I received a Note III as a gift last Christmas. I threw it into the bay a month later. If I have to use Android, give me an LG phone...
Apple’s got, what, 90 percent of all mobile phone profits, everyone else in the biz splits the remaining 10 percent? And Apple is delivering the 6 line at a competitive price point that still yields Apple margins? Samsung’s going to be in rough shape for a while at least.
I don’t like phones that won’t allow me to replace my battery AND MY MEMORY CHIP!!!!
Same here. Id rather go down the ship than be lectured by faggot lovers like Tim Cook.
Whoop de doo.
Android market share continues to thrive.

Unless Apple makes a compelling phone that isn’t a rehash with the same lackluster operating system, it too will follow the Nokia model.
Once emerging markets gain more traction it’s over for Apple. And I own an iPhone so don’t accuse me of being a Samsung lover.
Ummm ... I saw Android on there, though, as it’s Android that Samsung is using, from Google!
AND THEN ... I would say that a MAJORITY of Freepers (and probably you) are using Microsoft to even read and post here! ... :-) ...
If you were to remove all software and hardware of Hi-Tech companies that had a Homosexual agenda connected in any way with their company ... most Freepers wouldn’t even be able to get online or read and post to Free Republic ... LOL ...
Why would any sane person who is thinking of buying a Galaxy S6 make his decision based on a review from Mac Daily News? The S6 has received excellent reviews across the board, has had record pre-orders and will have great sales. It will be well deserved too. It’s a great product.
Yep, I like the fact that Apple works diligently at perfection, with every iteration of any of their products!
Once they changed to a battery that is not easily removable, I was done upgrading. I’ll ride my current model as long as possible now.
Ill post what I did on another recent thread, a number of days ago ... here on Free Republic. I should also mention that a person would have to quit the entire Hi-Tech industry to get away from companies that have some homosexual agenda going on in their companies politics. And I know that people are not going to give up on their Hi-Tech stuff, so no boycott is going to work. The only thing that will work is working with your legislators.
Here is what I said before ... quoting it below ...
As I said before, Im not quitting Apple products, because theyre too good. I buy my products for how good of a job they do for me, not because of the company politics, or who they donate to, or employees at the company, no matter what level theyre at.
In fact most of the time I have no idea what their political persuasions are ... when I buy gas, if I get a coffeemaker from a manufacturer, or the pharmacy I go to, the bakery, grocery store, the shopping mall ... and you name it ... I dont know and I dont care ... because Im buying a product for myself, in order to meet my requirements, and no one elses requirements!
Im not going to get all twisted up with the products and services I buy, with politics. You can but Im not doing it!
And when I work at a company, I dont expect to have an entire subgroup of the population complaining against me in that job because of my political and religious and sexual persuasions, and I dont expect them to gripe at me for whatever the company says. I expect to be judged in my job environment strictly on the ability to do my job properly, and perhaps better than anyone else.
If I get involved in my own time ... which I do ... then we can all argue about it on my own time, but not on the basis of my job or my work or the goods that I am making or selling on the market! If I run the company and there is policy that you dont like, well, then complain away through company channels, if you want ... I PERSONALLY DONT CARE!
I figure that I can get involved personally (with whatever my own personal political or religious or sexual preferences are) on my own time. And the company can handle its own policies, too. My work remains separate, the company remains separate, and the products (and/or services) are the only thing I care about, PERIOD!
OH ... BY THE WAY ... Im typing this on an iPad ... LOL ...
ALSO ... I hope people are not going to buy any Android phones or Microsoft phones, because of their Homosexual Agenda they push. And I hope they no longer buy any computers with Windows in them, because of that. Actually good luck in finding anything ... :-) ...
That is exactly what I was thinking. I don’t want proprietary Samsung apps, and I really wish they would leave the android interface alone. If I wanted proprietary, I’d buy apple. I own a galaxy s5, but I’ve also fooled with the “more pure” motor x. This long time Samsung owner (only smart phone brand I’ve ever owned) is seriously considering jumping to something else next time around - mostly because of the bloat ware and proprietary crappie that gets worse every iteration.
Are you sure those Apple products didn’t do that in your sleep? ... LOL ...
I was reading another poster’s description of homosexual practices, in connection with Apple products, and I think they were explaining how to have homosexual sex with your phone! ... :-) ...
I’m sorry, but I don’t have any kind of sex with my refrigerator, or automobile or lawnmower (I would imagine you have to be real careful there) or my iPhone and iPad!
Some of these posters have really weird ideas!
You’re not going to be able to find Hi-Tech companies and their products who are disconnected from the Homosexual agenda. Just take Microsoft for one example, a company long involved in the homosexual agenda. Take all the Microsoft products away from Freepers ... and we wouldn’t have but a fraction of the Freepers left on this forum!
And then take away Android, and a whole lot of Freepers would be left “incommunicado”!
