The short circuit delaying the restart of the Large Hadron Collider has been fixed, after a blast of high current melted the metal particle responsible.
It is now likely that the LHC will see beams of protons racing around its 27km circumference early next week.
The massive machine's second run, after a two-year refit, had faced a delay of up to several weeks after the glitch was discovered ten days ago.
But now only much more routine tests remain to be completed.
Cern, the European organisation for nuclear research, announced on Tuesday that Run Two of the collider was "back on track".

OH NOES! They are going to destroy the earth............again.
The old pull the fuse and replace it with a stout metal rod trick.
Let'er rip and see where the smoke comes from, poof, problem gone :)
Duct tape and WD-40..fixes everything
They must not have let the smoke out of the circuit; because once you let the mystical smoke out of an electrical circuit, it doesn't work anymore. But where are you supposed to go to get the smoke put back in?
And the resulting droplets of metal vapor condensing on nearby surfaces inside the beam tube is not a problem? And the droplets that don’t getter onto surfaces, instead condensing into micron-size solid particles and dusting themselves who knows where? Oooh-kay.
Don’t buy the green banannies!
Thanks BenLurkin.
Its been nice knowin y’all!
