Back in the day, when I was young and still cute, I went to a local dance program called Sumthin Else.
Sam & Dave were the guest artists that day. I had no idea they would end up being iconic. Hey!!! I was on tv!! Who cared who was singing?
For a lot of people this is associated with an instrumental piece, “Time is Tight”, by Booker T. & The MG’s.

Another good party song of that time was ‘Tighten Up!” by Archie Bell & The Drells. Never found out what a ‘drell’ was.
I watched The Wrecking Crew yesterday. They didn’t actually mention Sam & Dave, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
back when black music really WAS music...I saw Sam Moore perform in the early 1980’s, singing all the hits he had with Dave. He was backed by an all-white soul band that sounded as though it came right out of the Stax-Volt diskery where they waxed their biggest hits.

Mr G did some work for Sam in the early 90’s. As a studio owner, we sometimes had a hard time getting paid.... and this was one of those times. After a number of conversations and promises and then the refusal to answer calls for what was really a very small amount of money, I finally sent them a letter stating.....
“Failure to pay the bill by (a date within 2 weeks) constitutes permission for (our studio) to use any and all materials in our possession in any way we so desire.”
All of a sudden I got a call back!!! Mrs. Sam, (his manager) was furious and made the announcement she would never work with us again (like I need more deadbeat clients) and all kinds of threats, but she did in fact pay the waaaay overdue bill. With the check cashed, she demanded I send them their property. I was happy to announce we had absolutely nothing of theirs in our possession.
