Camp David just isn’t President Obama’s kind of retreat

On Monday when Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani visits Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland will once again serve as the venue for important geopolitical negotiations on seemingly intractable issues, a role it has played for more than seven decades.

But as Secretary of State John F. Kerry and other Cabinet members host the Afghan president, one major U.S. figure will not be present — President Obama.

The president’s absence is just one signal of how the role of the cloistered compound in the Catoctin mountains has changed under this president, a city dweller who prefers gym workouts and golf courses to hiking trips or fly-fishing expeditions.

For several of Obama’s predecessors, Camp David was a critical refuge from the public spotlight and a chance to spend time outdoors, as well as a forum for soft-touch presidential diplomacy.

Maybe he can’t bring himself to go to a place that shares its name with a great biblical Jew.

A majority of the American population voted for this scum bag twice. Given the chance, they would vote for him again. It’s time to give it up. Freedom and liberty and individual rights were an interesting, historical experiment. Tyranny and total disregard for humanity have been and always will be all that is. But, hey, how about those playoffs and the new iPhone ear rings and ‘Dancing with the Dobermans’. Let’s get our priorities straight !

The whole area is agonizingly beautiful.

We ride the Harleys around the Catoctin Mountain area a lot every summer.

It’s too good for him.

It’s God’s country.

It is a beautiful area.

Golf-1 can’t feel really comfortable surrounded by a company of tough armed US Marines.

A man I know worked in the Pentagon many years ago and when they had a drill, because of what he knew, he was taken to the Camp David underground. Camp David wasn’t and isn’t all fun and games - it has an underground safe location. There are other underground safe places now, however.

One of my uncles was a general (1 or 2 star, if I remember right) during WW11, and after it was over, he worked in the Pentagon during the 50s. I’m wondering if he ever had to do that, like that guy you mentioned? Could be, if it was a procedure they used.

You won it. 0bama would fall into the footprints of the great men who once walked Camp David as a toothpick would into the Grand Canyon. It kills him he will never approach their greatness in good, but he aspires to be their equal in doing damage to this nation.

Maybe it’s the name. It’s named for David Eisenhower, President Eisenhower’s grandson, who became Richard Nixon’s son-in-law. And don’t forget that President Eisenhower broke off diplomatic relations with one of Obama’s heroes, Fidel Castro.

Camp David = White Privelage in Obama’s mind, even though it was constructed by Roosevelt’s WPA back in the 1930s. You would think Obama would embrace all of that collectivist love.

Sorry, Camp David is for closers ...

President Ronald Reagan and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Modern era conservative heroes. We'll not soon see their like again.

” One of my uncles was a general (1 or 2 star, if I remember right)...” I’m wondering if he ever had to do that, like that guy you mentioned? Could be, if it was a procedure they used.”

Depends on the amount of secret information he knew. The man I was speaking of decoded incoming intel, helped decide who should see/read it and at times was the courier to deliver those secret messages - being the guy with the briefcase handcuffed to him.

There were other secure locations for those who needed to be protected from being “caught” in case of attack. This particular fellow was always taken to the Camp David underground. When he left that job, he was sworn to secrecy for twenty years. That twenty years was over a long time ago, but he has never told me anything that could be called sensitive information that happened during that time.

Back then, our military had true patriots. I’m not sure we have many of those kind of patriots left. Obama has stripped our military of many generals and other officers who have independent thinking and replaced them with those he can “trust” to be lap dogs.
