Michelle Obama said Thursday that the U.S. has undergone a culture change in the five years since she started raising awareness about childhood obesity. But as she celebrated achievements on multiple fronts, the first lady also warned that the progress thats been made is incredibly fragile.
Thats because special interests whose first priority is not our kids health are waiting for us to get complacent or bored and move on to the next trendy issue, Mrs. Obama said at an annual health summit. She cited the fight over a recent child nutrition law as an example.
Even today, some folks are still arguing that we just cant afford to serve our kids healthy food, that its too expensive, she said in a reference to Obama administration requirements that more fresh produce and whole grains be served in schools.
Many schools have adopted the standards but others contend they arent working and have lobbied Congress to weaken them. Schools must follow government nutrition rules if they accept federal reimbursements for free and reduced-price meals for low-income students.

Has Michelle Obama and her fat police conducted any studies or read about the fragile psyche of young and pre-puberty girls? Anorexia and bulimia can easily be triggered by the continual suggestion that they need to diet to avoid obesity, in fact it is the number one cause of these conditions. Additionally, many parents unwittingly encourage their children to eat “healthy” which is also a trigger. Children need fatty foods to build their bodies, and I can not believe nutritionists have not spoken out on these issues.
Food culture change? I didn’t even realize there was a ‘food culture’. This windbag makes me ill. She should follow her own advice first.
Government nutrition guidelines = roadmap to obesity, sickness, and dependency on government (and Obamacare). I've started to wonder if fedzilla is using its heavy-handed health advisers and drug-pushers to smoke out the non-compliant.
The enemies of the state will be the ones who somehow manage to remain in good health and off the pharmaceutical merry-go-round. They'll know by looking at a healthy body that the patient is not following the party line.
Puts a new meaning to going to the doctor for a "routine check-up to see if you're healthy".
Is it possible to be too paranoid in this day and age? These sickos are crafty and sleazy. As normal-minded real doctors flee or retire, they'll be replaced by Obamacare drones i.e. compliant quota quacks.
Looks like a tic, ready to pop.
too many of the “health nuts” the 7 day a week joggers,,,,etc,,etc,,around here are dyed in the wool...commies...so Id dont know how well that will work.
I just crushed a huge steak and a baked potato! Now I’m on my third beer. FUMO!

Never happen...they will be heading to a wealthy, white enclave after they leave Washington.
No jivin’ with the brothers for these two.

Who pulled her chain?
A lot of them *aren’t* healthy. They look like death warmed over. Beast.gov approves!
For those “progressives” who do eat the demonized real foods, stear clear of the garbage and keep their health, they just might realize what going against the regime will mean for their lives. There is hope for some.
Culture change? Yes, I guess switching over to crappy, moldy, skimpy lunch trays could be considered culture change.
This is so nuts. The schools should NOT be feeding our kids.
Parents should give their kids breakfast at home, pack them a lunch or be home for them to come home for lunch, and, needless to say, have dinner for them.
NOBODY had to be fed when I went to school. If parents don’t do their job, treat them as if the child was being mistreated.
Being force-fed sh1t sandwiches by Mooch is not a cultural food change.
I know that when I was young...I was most certainly Young And Foolish!
Hope Springs Eternal!
Brazilian this and that .... shows you that the elite diss everything American.
But I guarandamtee you that even if they had the budget, no public school could put that menu out under Moochelle's dietary "guidelines."
Yeah, forcing all these government nutrition standards on schools just when the evidence is being accepted that the standards have been in error, and even harmful, all these years they’ve been advocated.
Exactly what achievements is she celebrating? It’s been an absolute failure. For the amount of money they’re putting into this, they shouldn’t be serving such awful food.
