For those of you not familiar with the ways of California, a "SigAlert" means that anyone operating a motor vehicle must don a head-to-toe aluminum-foil suit to keep out the alpha rays, like Tony Roberts' character did in Annie Hall.

Isn’t that the film where Woody Allen says that the one and only contribution California has made to civilization is right turn of red?

Yeah, and where Tony Roberts reports that the women in LA are just like Playboy centerfolds, except that they can move their arms and legs.

In 1941, Loyd C. Sigmund worked for radio station KMPC AM 710 in Los Angeles. Working for Golden West Broadcasters in 1955, he developed a system of reporting traffic jams and major traffic accidents in the Los Angeles area. The invention initially involved a specialized radio receiver connected to the LAPD. This eliminated the need for each radio station to call the LAPD in order to report major traffic problems. In 1969, the California Highway Patrol took over the Sigalert system. The term “Sigalert” is now officially defined as an unplanned event which causes at least one lane of traffic to be closed for 30 minutes or more. Sigalerts are still used today during news radio and TV news shows which broadcast during peak traffic hours.

Actually, the Richard Nixon Freeway is the SR-90 (Imperial Highway), that runs through Yoba Linda, and passes his library.
