It was hardly a surprise Thursday when ratings-challenged MSNBC announced the cancellation of the poor-performing afternoon programs hosted by Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid after less than a year, with veteran news anchor Thomas Roberts stepping in to preside over the two-hour block from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Until a permanent replacement is named for Roberts’s 5:30 a.m. program Way Too Early, the 6 a.m. Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski will temporarily take up the slack by starting a half-hour earlier.
But according to knowledgeable sources at the Comcast-owned cable network, Thursday’s moves were only the opening salvo in a wider programming shakeup.
In the relatively near term, two well-placed sources predicted to The Daily Beast, Chris Hayes will be relieved of his weak-performing 8 p.m. show All In, to be replaced by the current 9 p.m. host of The Rachel Maddow Show, while a talent search is currently underway to fill the prime-time slot to be vacated by Maddow.

They need to get rid of the guy in charge of MSNBC and most of all, Al Sharpton. By the way, your description of Hayes is “right on”.
Rumor has it that the Home Shopping Network has made a buyout offer for the whole operation...one dollar.Comcast is seriously considering that offer.

That’s what happens when a “news” channel (and I use the term loosely here) promotes an agenda instead of just reporting the facts regardless of what they are. Just like any other product in a capitalist society, if it sucks the people will go elsewhere for a better product. Sink or swim.................unless der leader bails you out.

Hayes is truly loathesome.
If they ever axe Big Ed (who has WORSE ratings than Frank Sinatra’s son did) they better take emergency security measures because he has already threatened to go POSTAL over there.
Unfortunately for MSNBC, the cable company now owns them. So I guess they don't make anything for just throwing them into the lineup. They might actually have to get ratings/ad revenue to carry their weight. Uh oh, MSNBC is not good at that!
