Does your MacBook Pro freak out with distorted graphics or randomly restart? Then youll want to take advantage of Apples new repair program.
After deeming that a small percentage of MacBook Pro systems may exhibit distorted video, no video, or unexpected system restarts, Apple will start fixing parts for free on select MacBook Pro models.
image: https://stackcommerce-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/ad/image/151/singleproduct_web_the-6-ft-mfi-certified-ios-android-charging-cable_1423083568.png A class action lawsuit was filed against Apple last October over graphics issues with 2011 MacBooks. A petition on Change.org for Apple to offer free repairs currently has over 38,000 signatures. A thread on Apples support forum about the issue has over 4 million views. Now Apple will repair any MacBook Pro purchased between February 2011 and December 2013. The program covers Retina as well as non-Retina models.
While AppleCare would typically be required to get free repairs, the program means that anyone can get their affected MacBooks fixed at no cost. The computer must have distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen, no video on the computer screen (or external display) even though the computer is on, or restart unexpectedly for it to qualify.
Any Apple authorized service provider, not just Apples own stores, will do the repairs. You can check your MacBooks eligibility on Apples website. The programs lasts until February 27, 2016 or until three years after the MacBooks original purchase date.
I would like to see the Apple updates continue on FR. This is valuable service and it’s refreshing to see conservative minded people talking high tech. It doesn’t have to be politics all the time though I come here for that too.
Illegitimi Non Carborundum.
Thanks Swordmaker. You're not the one with the obsession.
I like the Apple ping listings. They help keep me up to date with Apple information and new updates. What I purchased a new Apple computer last year it was a good source of information as to which type my best suit my needs. So, thanks for the Apple Ping!
Actually, Swordmaker has posted a number of threads related to the Shroud of Turin.
Seriously, I commend them for doing the right thing here and extending warranty coverage. All manufacturers make mistakes. What is important is that, unlike companies like Asus and Samsung, Apple stands behind their products.
I like the Apple pings. If you don’t, just ignore them. All of us have topics we ignore.
I am grateful for these Mac threads. Although I mostly use Windows, I also have a Mac. What Swordmaker hasn’t said is that he has also generously replied to private emails when we encounter a problem we have no idea how to solve. He provides a fantastic service all from the goodness of his big heart and those of us who own Macs or come across them from time to time in the course of our work REALLY appreciate all the effort he expends. I guess we don’t say it often enough if he is being harassed by trolls. If you don’t like Macs, stay off the threads! They are clearly marked.
As a Freeper for about 12 1/2 years and a monthly contributor, thanks again, Swordmaker, for keeping all us Apple users up to speed on all things Apple.
MANY of us appreciate all your help over the years, so please ignore those critics who seem to think we should spend more time of surfing computer-related sites and less time FReeping.
Then tell that to those who post nearly exclusively about the Roman Catholic Church...
Or to those who primarily post any other non-political subject.
You are the one who is blustering about a non-issue. And never mind that the owner of this message board had authorized such technology/computer discussions (thus the reason there is such a category when generating a new thread).
Jim has also strongly warned several for personal attacks and bashing replies on Apple-related threads. The fact that a few mods are more than happy to let some stay for their own apparent pleasure is disturbing... but anyway...
Conservatism includes a belief in a Capitalistic economy - free market principals, etc. Few companies have shown the value of such a market as Apple. For a company that was supposedly going to be dead by 1995, it has grown to be the most profitable and valuable in the world.
There are quite a few Apple users on FR - most of us appreciate the regular updates regarding news, malware (or lack of), technical issues, and more...
If one doesn’t like these threads - then don’t click on them to read them!
I thought Freeper courtesy required a “ping” to a Freeper that is being discussed in a thread.

You guys can knock off the abuse reports.
We ignore them
And you don’t have to read or post to these threads.
Do I see you berating the gardening threads? The endless, no sense of brevity Catholic threads? The “we hate Mormons” threads?
There are lots of threads I avoid on FR. Maybe you should do the same?
Do you ignore the abuse reports when the poster is calling Apple users homosexual? Would you ignore abuse reports if they were calling Mormons homosexual? Or maybe if they called all motor cycle riders homosexual, would that warrant Admin intervention?
I am suddenly disillusioned...
Maybe Admin humor?
That said, it does look like Apple is doing a stand up job supporting their hardware, and a crappy batch of chips that run hot and heavy is not so surprising.
So much of the PC market is a commodity and throw away if it acts up. I am tossing out a great printer because the crappy plastic gears are not replaceable. I really hate the disposable nature of personal computer hardware these days.
Nope, did not ping any haters. They find their own way to Apple threads. Do you think you are one? I should hope not.
That's one of the reasons we like Apple hardware. . . very little of it is disposable.
Too often I just say: "I duuno, must be that POS Win 8"? I eventually fix it, but why be bothered having to go do a search for the issue?
There are people like her and her sister that just cannot and do not want to deal with the little bullshiite quirks, I am coming to understand that the more I have to help her.
Being an old electrical engineer married to a former hairdresser, you learn to deal with those with different mental abilities.
FWIW, my "hate", if it is there, is more for the "iProduct" frenzy, not the Apple PC line.
I understand your updates on the OS and this product support issues. Why I did not join in on the gang bang.
