I'm a divorced man with two grown children.

Today, I travelled 2 1/2 hours from Eastern Washington to Seattle to hang out with my grown daughter.

She is a professional and a college graduate who is living the big life in the big city.

I don't see her often anymore, but today I arrived at her place late morning bearing purple carnations (her favorite color), a Starbucks gift card, (Hey, this is Seattle, and she loves coffee like Dad).

We went out to brunch, (Dad treated of course), we stopped and got some more coffee on our way back to her place.

And then I did some Dad projects for her in her apartment.

We laughed, cried and discussed old times, we had a great time.

And then I drove home thinking, just, damn, they grow up so quickly. I love her so much.

Happy Valentine's Day!

What a lovely day you had.

I have 2 daughters and 3 sons and talked to a couple of them.

One is out west but the rest of them are clearing away snow, raking roofs, and knocking away huge icicles.

Snowing again now (Eastern MA)

Your daughter sounds like a lovely young lady.

What a nice thought and question.

Our oldest daughter is working in Honolulu and we’ll see her next in May. I moved our middle daughter to Denver three weeks ago and we spent two days driving and two days getting her settled in her new apartment. That was a great four days. She was working today, so didn’t get a chance to talk to her. Lastly, today is our son’s birthday and I wished him Hapy Birthday at 5 AM. His girlfriend is visiting from out of state so he’s fully occupied this weekend.

My 16 yr old daughter we adopted from China when less than 2. Walking hand in hand along the bay under a beautiful sunset here in Hawaii. How swift like the wind is the time; how precious like all the world’s jewels & gold is a daughter!

I have no daughters. I’m a mom, and I spent the day with all of my teenaged sons, including the one in college. We all had a nice dinner together and then some hot chocolate. Then we sat and talked.

It’s nice that many of you dads are spending time with your daughters.

Daddies make great valentines.

I called and wished my dad a happy valentines day. Mom held the phone to his ear and when I told him I loved him, he said thank you with a smile in his voice. He has Alzheimer’s and can’t talk much but he knows I love him.

What a lovely thread to post....

Although I’m a mom and not a dad, I can still say that daughters are indeed very special.

My grown daughter married her high-school sweetheart and they have given me 3 little grandchildren. It means the world to me to have them close by, as they have a farm just 20 minutes away. She’s thoughtful, kind, and fun to be around - as is her very sweet husband.

You sound like a wonderful dad. God bless you.

Awesome, PROCON!!

Our daughter is 15 going on 30 ;); I am a reporter and had to cover something tonight, but my husband made a very nice dinner and we all had a meal at the table at the same time (shocker!!) and we gave the kids (Gilly and her older brother Chris, 19), some delicious chocolate treats.

It seems like life is on fast forward after you have children.

I am so happy you got to spend time with “your girl” (I always called Gilly that when she was a baby), Happy Valentines to you and yours! Julie

p.s., I am sure she appreciated you drove over five hours to spend time with her...

I went to a daddy, daughter dance last night (Friday) with my 10 yr old grand daughter ... I hat a date with a cute little blond.

Folks ... I had a good (enough) time, but I tell ya' ...

The dance was put on by the school and the teachers were leaders in those line dances (which I don't do, and thankfully, neither does my GD ... and the music was almost all THUMP, THUMP, THUMP crap

I had to request Joe Cocker .. You Are So Beautiful .. so I could embarrass her on the floor and actually sing to her

The daddys were all standing around embarrassed or something (I guesstimate maybe a hundred "couples" (the entire elementary schoo was invited) so that's a lot of guys not knowing what to do during the thump, thump, thump

Total slow songs ... 4 ... in a two hour period

I'm a school board firector ... next meeting Feb 19 ... one more apple cart for me to push over

Well, yes I did as a matter of fact, but mostly because of the grandkids, that is her son and daughter. Naturally, they are the focus of most of the action, but I did hang out with my daughter today!

So happy Valentines Day to you and everybody, and God bless us every one.

Wife and I had a lovely dinner Saturday evening, prepared by our 50 yr old daughter and her husband.

Today we all head up to “Happy Valley” to do belated Valentine’s with their elder daughter, our granddaughter at PSU, who was born on Feb. 14th 21 years ago.

God is SO good.

Awwww.... that is so sweet, Procon. I loved your story. For what it is worth.. she will always remember that day! Always. I can only imagine your drive back home was bitter sweet.. enjoying the day but remembering when you danced with her while she stood on your feet. Hugs...
