Not even two years after being rolled out by the New York baker Dominique Ansel, the cronut -- thats a doughnut made with croissant dough, for those who might have been living under a rock -- has gone mainstream.
Dunkin Donuts, the Canton-based breakfast food franchise, said Wednesday that it would make the croissant donut a permanent addition to its menu. (Cronut is a trademarked term.) Since introducing the item in November, Dunkin said it has sold 8.5 million of them, with about 3.9 million sold since mid-December, according to past news releases.

There is no better donut in the world than the donuts at Carol Lee Donuts in Blacksburg, VA. The home of the Va Tech Hokies. The have been making fresh donuts daily for at least forty years if not more.

Its their only halfway decent donut and I think the croissant dough helps stave off the staleness that afflicts their other donuts. I love their coffee, though. Good chugging coffee.
It’s not overpriced if people are willing to pay the price for it. Simple economics of supply and demand.

My fave,called Cottage Donuts,lost it’s locations to DD about 30 years ago.

If I had a job I would patronize DD.
I’ve been wanting to try one of these since that bakery started making them.
