I didn't know until he explained it to me, but basically he said that the opposition to evolution has nothing to do with reason or science.
It has to do with four little words; four little words that, when questioned, lead to hands clapping over ears, shouting, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.
They are the four little words that are the only reason Genesis is defended by anyone - whether old or young earth.
The Image of God.
If Genesis hadn't told people they were made "in the image of god", it would have been as forgotten as any other creation myth.
People with a cartoon level understanding of Genesis set it against their cartoon level understanding of evolution, and they pick the cartoon that tells them they are the Center of All Things.
nice rant against Christianity there fella- but no one is ‘clapping their hands over their ears’ nor are they ‘running from science’ There are many organizations out there that present scientific facts showing the impossibilities of evolution- while some like your friend obviously have never taken the time to actually learn the FACTS about evolution, and just take it at face value- there are plenty of Christians who actually investigate the issue and are led to the conclusion that macroevolution is impossible- period-
Have you even bothered to check out Miller’s silly trial argument that ‘irreducible complexity doesn’t need God’ in which the biased judge allowed such insane arguments? Had you done so you would see how silly miller’s agument was, and how much an intelligent designer really IS needed, and how nature MUST have violated it’s own rules in order for irreducible complexity to arise- the only way it could have ‘arisen naturally’ was to do so supernaturally- soemthign the evos claim doesn’t exist-
And as for the ‘creation of amino acids’ that miller and pals did- that too NEEDED an intelligent designer (ie them) in order to keep the left hand acids fro mthe right, in order to keep them in just the right environment, which was IMPOSSIBLE on earth, and in just the right positions in order for the to ‘briefly live’- but even that experiment failed, yet it was and still is touted as a ‘rousing success’ by evos despite the FACT that it needed intelligent designers in order to create it in the first place-
Have you bothered to read up on polonium halos and how they they are ‘instantly created’ and how this scientific mystery has been a thorn I nthe side of evos for several decades now with NO rational explanation as to how nature could have produced them on it’s own? No?
Have you bothered to read up on red-shifts? Or time expansion? No?
Have you bothered to investigate the supposed ‘nearly complete fossil line showing one species evolving from another I nthe sea, then becoming land dwellers’? Had you done so- you would see how DECEITFUL school textbooks have been regarding this ‘evidence’ that the evos claim is their ‘best evidence to date’ for showing evolution- You would also have found out that evos had to eat crow over the claims and retract their claims
Did you bother to investigate the supposed ‘evolution in action right before our eyes’ concerning prokaryotes and eukaryotes supposedly evolving into one another? Had you done so you would have ocne again discovered that you were being LIED to in school textbooks (and again would have discovered evos had to eat crow on this and retract their claims because of their intentional deceit which they thought no one would notice) Turns out euks and prokaryotes were nothing more than two species forming a SYMBIOTIC relationship- Woopsie-
did you bother checking out the FACT that chimps and humans are not infact ‘98% similar’?
On and on it goes- No sir- We aint ‘clapping our hands over our ears’, nor are we running from science not by a long shot- infact we embrace it because it backs up everything we’ve been saying right along-
