CBS This Mornings Steve Hartman gets to the heart of the matter:
Whats amazing to me about you is that youre out in the desert for weeks on end, you didnt cry. Your friends are dying next to you and you didnt cry. You get to talking about America and you started crying.
Kuch responds with a simple, but powerful answer:
I love this country so much.
This is why being in the military is deeply personal for Kuch. Hes not only serving his country, but its the best way he could find of saying thank you to a country that once gave him a second chance at life.

He was of one of "Lost Boys Of Sudan." As the story intro has it:
"36-year-old Sergeant Peter Kuch is one of the most dedicated and toughest soldiers at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. But theres something that touches a soft spot in his heart every time he speaks about it America."
Not bad at all for a man who found his mother back in his old country.
Someone loves our country so much as he does deserves our salute, thanks and gratitude.

"We the People" ain't just some ink scribbles on a hermetically-sealed parchment.
The Romney sons should take a look at this. The Sununu sons should do the same, as should the Burr sons, the Armey sons, etc. So many limp-Richards among our ‘leadership’ class.
And the “reporter” was most likely stymied as to what could anyone love about this country enough to make them cry? Well, I get choked up at the National Anthem and at Veterans Day parades too. As bad as it seems at times, no place better despite the lefts ongoing battle to turn it in to a 3rd world country.
I know the exact feeling myself...I served in Vietnam and people think I’m a “grizzled old vet”...
They can’t understand it when I get “emotional”...*L*
This story could be repeated thousands— millions—of times. For me, my triggers are thankful children, grieving widows, and healing soldiers. If you haven’t been there, you have no idea of the powerful emotions inside those who have seen the elephant.

I don’t know if I’m considered old and grizzled but I joined the Navy in ‘67 and I still maintain the oath I took then is still valid in my life today. Thanks for your service.
What a great story. Thanks for posting.

I am going to assume that’s Patuxent River, Maryland.
We put in some years there, with Grumman, testing their planes on the land catapult.
Had our first 2 daughters there, also.
This would be 1957 to maybe 1962, when we were sent to New Mexico to test the ascent and descent engines on Grumman’s LEM (Lunar Excursion Model).
