Like Fifty Shades of Grey's Anastasia Steele, Sam Taylor-Johnson was a wide-eyed innocentshe'd directed only one feature, 2009 indie Nowhere Boywhen she got hired to direct the much-anticipated big-screen adaptation of EL James' phenomenally successful erotic novel. But during an 18-month whirlwind ride, Taylor-Johnson explored the world of S&M, overcame casting troubles (Dakota Johnson stars opposite Irish actor Jamie Dornan, who replaced Charlie Hunnam) and endured daily battles with the book's highly opinionated author. Ahead of the film's Feb. 11 premiere at Berlinale, the 47-year-old British director and mother of four (she's married to actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson) reveals all the bruises, battles and benefits of working on one of Hollywood's hottest projects.

I hope all these people come down with HIV or Ebola.
Don't hold back. You are amongst friends, here!
when Vince Flynn’s novels make it the big screen I sure hope the director doesn’t try to alter the screenplay so its not true to the book.
Well, that’s not very nice. You know what they say, Different Strokes for....Ahh, let me rephrase that.
I guess you shouldn’t work with EL James unless you can take a beating.
Cry me a river.
This will be a flash in the pan. I hope they all go broke.
Reading that hag’s writing is like getting beaten.
“EL James was very hands-on with the film.”
Because, you know, when your claim to fame is to write a badly spelled, badly edited, horribly written fanfiction story loosely based on a hokey, badly written novel (Twilight), you know so much about film-making. /sarc
I don’t generally complain about how people make a living or what people choose to consume, but man...I cannot understand what sort of person would actually want to go see this movie. Is it the same impulse that makes people rubberneck at a car accident?
Please, film gods, make this one lose lots and lots of money.

Actually, before she decided to become an “author”, her career was in film and television, behind the scenes. So she might actually have some knowledge in that area. Who knows?
Really? Wow. I stand corrected, about that at least.
My opinion on her writing skills is etched in Adamantium, LOL.
A long long time ago I had a girl friend(sub) into that Dom - Sub whip action thing. To much work for the dom, no thank you. NEVER again.
I was wondering that myself. I've been mocking its audience as...how shall I phrase this delicately...probably a little naive for the subject matter. Nevertheless, the book was an undeniable hit. It doesn't have to be good, it just has to sell. Same, unfortunately, with the movie, but if I had to bet, it wouldn't be that this is the next Star Wars. But I've been wrong before.
trashy novel poorly written....no doubt the movie will make Hollyweird millions
I’d be embarrassed to admit I read this.
Let alone go to the movie
You have answered your own question. Generally, Hollywood is out of ideas and the studio found a cheap movie to make.
We bought a used video game for $2.99 and it gave us weeks of fun. I cannot remember the last time a movie gave me that much value.
Fifty Shades of Sin.
