Celebrating the fifth anniversary of Lets Move! First Lady Michelle Obama explains to Cooking Light magazine that she had to get empowered in her own household to eliminate processed food.
Part of that experience was her personal fight against boxed macaroni and cheese, which, she admits, her kids loved.
At the time, her chef friend Sam Kass explained that boxed macaroni and cheese wasnt real food and so the family shouldnt eat it.
My kids loved the macaroni and cheese in a box, she explained. And he said, if its not real food then were not going to do it.

I like it drizzled on. I think I would too. We Scandinavians are big on drizzle. :)

Personal fight against it? Looks like she surrendered and applied it directly to her behind.

I make boxed mac and cheese with real butter and whole milk. What about that isn’t “real food”?

I dislike the woman but boxed macaroni and cheese is disgusting. Children need to eat the real thing which is totally delicious and nutritious.Real macaroni and cheese was Ronald Reagan's favorite dish, BTW.

More snobbery. Yes, I do. And I do quite well. And I can also read too! My tapas are utterly amazing. But I don’t do fake airs. Some old favorites are quite good in their own right.
Boxed isn’t nearly as bad as you suggest. You are posturing, as many self styled “foodies” like to do.

If you tell a kid some food is healthy and good for them, they become very suspicious and won’t eat it.

It may not be real, but it tastes good, and boy is it cheap.

Add about 5 strips of cooked bacon and half a chopped fresh tomato and voila!, a gourmet meal. Side salad and fresh French bread if you wish......

Empowered bothered me too, she didn’t have the guts
to say she made the decision, she had to put it on
the chef, who no longer works for them.
Blech.

.... boxed macaroni and cheese is disgusting. You are obviously not preparing this gourmet delight properly. Many are unaware that the box is not to be opened. One merely places the box into violently boiling, slightly salted water. Do not serve until the box, that funky envelope inside the box, AND the Mac stuff have dissolved completely.
May I suggested a slightly chilled Boone's Farm to go with that, or perhaps before that?
To: UCANSEE2
Good point. I am sure that cooking would be beneath her imagined dignity.

P.S. Ramen noodles with some Ranch dressing.
It adds some bulk to the mix and tastes awesome.
Actually, just about anything liquid or pastelike added to Ramen noodles tastes good. Add Parmesan for that special treat.
