It was a year ago - the Sunday after Super Bowl XLVIII at 8pmET - that Michael Sam turned speculation into reality: One of college football's best players, and a top NFL prospect, was gay.
In the coming months he was showered with praise. Eric Dickerson would offer him congratulations. Michael Irvin would call him his friend. Robert Quinn welcomed him to the Rams. Even the President of the United States, Barack Obama himself, would laud him.

Tebow is out of the NFL for the same reason why Sams is; he doesn't have his ability to play his position at the pro level. These kind of articles would not be worthwhile if they were about Tebow and they aren't worthwhile about Sams. They're just people whining that their chosen player is being discriminated against because of sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or any reason other than the correct one. Lack of talent.
I, too, have been frozen out of the NFL. They have unfairly denied me the opportunity to realize my dream of being an NFL running back because I am fat, old, lazy, and slow.
I do not understand why Michael Sam did not try to join a team in the CFL. It seems the Canadian game might be better suited for a smaller, pash rushing defensive lineman.
And poorly talented quarterbacks go announce on the SEC channel.
One of the most nauseating things I ever saw on TV was Sams smooching his fruitcake “wife” on national TV when Sams was drafted by the Rams.
Still have to have talent. Sams comes up short in that area.
i agree with you 100%...my comment was meant to be sarcastic and rhetorical as much as anything else...
What team wants to deal with the distraction if an outed homosexual on the team?
None is my guess unless this guy is a true franchise player. Which he was not.
Frozen? Let it go.
Agree 100%!
The other ones could play football at an NFL level. Post snap pictures consistently showed Sam in his stance with all 21 other players in motion.
He also fell to the seventh round or out of the draft before he made his announcement. He’s not any good and it showed at the Combine and workouts.
He’s just not a very good player. And tried to finagle his coming out into being hired.
Maybe he can find a roster spot on the Super Bowl halftime “Puppy League”!
A lot of ‘holes get contracts because they can play. Look at Incognito.
lol... meet New Left Shark!
I know.
It was not I who said he is a “great guy”; it was someone who apparently could not think of anything good to say about his playing ability.
If the NFL couldn’t find a spot for Tim Tebow, quarterback for a national championship college team, they certainly shouldn’t find an affirmative action job for a player just because he is homosexual.
That’s an excellent path to a very short NFL career.
By being cut, or by being folded in half.
But, then again, they are owned by Time, so they may not have a choice.
