Do the New England Patriots Prefer White Players?
TruthLamp ^ | 11/17/2014

Does the front office of the New England Patriots prefer to have white players on its roster? There is circumstantial evidence that may be the case.

While the racial makeup of an NFL team in any given year has its share of random fluctuations, the New England Patriots have seemingly had a suspiciously large amount of white players on its teams during the Robert Kraft-Bill Belichick era.

Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, Danny Woodhead, Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, and Tom Brady — all have been some of the more prominent “faces” of the franchise in recent years, and they all happen to be white.

I remember this guy from the WHL, (1961-’62(?) with Los Angeles or San Diego, not sure which), and he was a decent enough player.

the national population is 12% black and about 72% white.

if the team has less then 12% blacks, then they may be over sampling whites.

if blacks make up more then 12%, then they are racially biased towards blacks

which is it?

No.

Actually.

How many white players played under John Thompson Sr at Georgetown?

“Mike Stokes, Bill Thomas, Craig Esherick, Mike MacDermott, Jeff Bullis, David Blue, Terry Fenlon, Emmet Fitzgerald, David Dunn (transferred to Alabama), Brian Kelly, Vladimir Bosanac, Mike Sabol (transferred to American), and Brendan Gaughan were all Caucasian players under scholarship during John Thompson Sr.’s (JT) tenure at Georgetown. Actually during the 1970s, several Caucasian basketball players were quite prominent and even had starting roles when JT was coach. Mike Stokes was part of the first recruiting class (Class of 1976) under JT. He had significant playing time and showed a lot of promise during his freshman year, but I do not know what happened afterwards. Other Caucasian players including Thomas, Esherick, MacDermott, and Bullis also had significant playing time either as starters or important role players during the 70s. It was during the 1980s that JT apparently stopped using white basketball players. He did recruit a few though (including Danny Ferry and Rex Chapman) but they went elsewhere. That was when the perception was created that JT was allegedly a racist who refused to utilize white players. He didn’t have a single Caucasian player on scholarship from 1984 until the end of the 80s. During the early 1990s, JT had several Caucasian players on the roster, but most were benchwarmers and only Brian Kelly had a significant role. Afterwards, JT again stopped using Caucasian players and through most of the 1990s, there was not a single Caucasian player on Georgetown’s basketball team (not even as a walk-on or benchwarmer). Did you see how pissed off Bill was when that black guy won the game for him? Most of us racist people in segregated Boston think it was totally rude of that .... that .... BLACK man ... to cut in front of a white man and steal his Lombardi trophy.

an NFL team is allowed 53 players.

seems ALL teams are being racist... as FAR MORE then 12% of the team is black.

Interesting that only about 5 of the teams in the top half are “southern”.

The great Celtic teams of the '80s featured Larry Bird and Danny Ainge. You forgot Kevin McHale.

OMG - do the names Bob Cousy, Tommy Heinson and Bill Russell mean anything??

Are you implying the Patriots organization is racist? Because if memory and past experience as an employee with the Dallas Cowboys (1983 - 1987) serves me correctly, the NFL is a business, and the more profitable and successful the business/franchise is, the more money it accrues for it’s owner (s) and employees. Race, religion, color, or creed be damned. It has always been and will continue to be about success (wins/championships/ticket sales/merchandizing/etc.) regardless as to how that goal is achieved or if the players and coaches are white, black, brown, yellow, red, fuscia or from Krypton. The only color that matters in the NFL is GREEN (cash) and it doesn’t matter what color the people on the roster are as long as you win and keep the cash flowing.

Just because the Pats found a way to win with a bunch white guys on their roster doesn’t make the organization racist. Rather, it makes them smarter.

JMHO.

I know he was the ‘first man off of the bench’ substitute, (Sixth Man), for the first 6 or so years of his career with the Celts, than a starter. Towards and at the the end of his career I just don’t remember if he stayed as a starter or switched back to a sub in a concession to age.

If we import Chinese players the announcers will never be able to use the phrase “Chinks in the armor” in their commentaries.

It was racist that the Seahawks lost because they have more Black players,
According to the population in this country, they should not not make up more than 12% of any sports team, so they are over-represented on every team.

Heh, talking about working up some animosity! I think that everyone knows by now that most of the NFL (and most sports) consists of mostly black players. Is that racist?

Could it actually be that many folks (of all races) actually don’t want to live or work where it is cold? Can we document that preference - heh?

Maybe way too many of you are too interested in race rather in quality of the player...gee whiz. What a bunch of racists you folks are...

Okay, most of this was in jest, referencing all of the unfortunate real world regarding race. This is what we get when we start the race issue without regard to actual problems.

Let’s face facts, the blacks are much better overall in these sports and the white folks are shocked, shocked that this is so...heh. In reality, the bottom line takes over and the best man wins! Who would have thought that if the best player is black that we would end up with a 80% black league in most sports! Disgusting isn’t it...haha.

Call it America, Capitalism, and may the best man win! Seems that only the white aristocrats, mostly graduates of the most prestigious schools that complain these days (yeah, you know who you are). Their complaints are disguised of course but are racist comments.

In reality, most of us have come to expect the black supremacy when dealing with sports and no longer care! Probably comes from seeing them dominate these sports and we just celebrate them, wage on them, and otherwise don’t think about it anymore. It is only the News Media that might bring up the problems that these Liberal activists see through their blurred lenses.

It’s not a matter of black or white; Belichick wants players who are smart, work their butts off, play within the system and execute their assignments.

In recent years, New England signed a couple of RBs from the college team I cheer for, Ole Miss. Most viewed them as no more than free agents who were unlikely to make an NFL roster. The first, Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis, eventually became the Pats #1 RB, before going to the Bengals through free agency; the second Ole Miss RB, Brandon Bolden, is a key player on their special teams. Both are African-American.

I am hardly a Patriots fan, but I admire their ability to find talent through later-round draft choices and undrafted free agents out of college. Making it more impressive is the fact the Pats have been near the end of the draft order for more than a decade.

New England prefers playing in the Super Bowl.

Eight Super Bowl trips since 1986...I think that's some kind of record.
