Netflix Developing A ‘Legend of Zelda’ TV Series
SLASH FILM ^ | 06 FEBRUARY 2015 | Germain Lussier

For decades, video game fans have been clamoring for some kind of big media translation of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda. We’ve dreamt of movies, TV shows and everything in between. The closest we’ve come is a brief animated series from the late ’80s. Now, those dreams may be about to come true on a bigger scale.

Netflix is reportedly out to writers for a live-action Legend of Zelda TV series. Nintendo is on board and working closely with Netflix but can ultimately scrap the idea if it doesn’t fit in with their vision of the series. Apparently, the streaming provider sees this as kind of a more family-oriented version of Game of Thrones. Read more about the potential Legend of Zelda TV series below.

My son and I have been playing Legend of Zelda games for years, the games are family friendly with no gore or blood.

Fun games which make you think in order to solve the different levels of the games.

Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess are among the best games.

I'm not sure a TV series would work.

Twilight Princess has blood when the bad guy gets impaled with a sword, but that is the exception, not the rule. My usual experience with a video game being adapted into a movie or TV series is that the movie is horrible. You can only really put so much of the game where you make so many decisions into a film, or into a series.

I remember playing the very original on the first Nintendo system. Loved that gold colored exterior on the game, and it even had an on board battery inside of it, which allowed it to save your progress! (a revolutionary concept at the time lol)

Imagine how the kids today would feel if they had to start ALL OVER from the beginning every time they started playing a game!

Regarding a TV show? .... I doubt it’ll work. lol

I don't see blood after slaying a Zelda bad guy, more like something like this...

But, regardless, it's a fun game series.

Television and movies based on video games have a fairly poor track record.

At the end of Twilight Princess, the lead villain lies in a dark pool of his own blood, impaled through the chest with the master sword. He also sees his second in command snap his own neck in suicide. But that it the worst that Zelda ever gets, as far as I have seen, and the only time I ever saw blood. Otherwise enemies just explode into fairy dust. Plus, how is one supposed to see gore in the 8-bit games?
