Pope Francis emphasized the right to food as fundamental in a video address Saturday to 500 experts starting work on a wide-ranging document aimed at raising awareness and proposing solutions to issues including hunger, obesity and food waste.

Francis said the paradox of abundance described by Pope John Paul II—whereby there is food for everyone yet not everyone can eat—continues to be an issue “despite the multiplication of organizations and responses by the international community on nutrition.” […]

He also urged them (the experts) to show courage in protecting the planet “the mother of everything that asks respect and not violence.” …

The Pope doesn’t need to write any new document to indicate the Church’s position on Marxism or socialism. It has already been done. That’s one of the beauty’s of Catholicism, continuity of teaching.

Another disregarded teaching of Catholicism. Search 'EPA Pope' yet in Titles? Article posted by a Catholic.

So I read a couple of different articles about (Ms?) Gina McCarthy.

Yes, she did visit with the Pope, and according to The National Catholic Register, this was the reason:

Papal support has also been sought by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. EPA administrator Gina McCarthy came to meet Vatican officials Jan. 31, with the aim of showing how aligned President Barack Obama and Pope Francis are on climate change. McCarthy shared in a press conference that global warming is a public threat, but also a chance for economic opportunity.

The document he is working on is due out in June. Further, the Holy See’s contribution, again according to the article, is:

The Holy See’s position is likely to be focused on two key topics: the need for a sustainable development and the duty to protect.

“This latter may be defined as the duty to protect populations from war or the duty to protect creation from exploitation,” a Vatican official expert in environmental issues explained to CNA Thursday.

“The encyclical’s main themes will likely be based on the twin pillars of a duty to protect and sustainable development, as well as human ecology.”

Just because he took a meeting with her, doesn’t make him a tool of a US agency, or its political masters. If you think the Pope is a tool of anybody, you are quite mistaken.

Let’s return to the issue of the thread, which was an incorrect statement made by the AP indicating the Pope called the Earth, “...the mother of everything.”

It has since been proven incorrect, yet none of the pillorying that followed by various Freepers has been retracted.

At least I took the opportunity to research your statements and acknowledge them. Will no one else?

What teaching has been disregarded and by whom?

There are a number of people who claim to be Catholic, but only seek to diminish the Holy Father.

For them, I have no time, and very little respect.

Olog-hai: What does this have to do with right to life so-called and per se? There is no “right” to have the rest of society be forced to maintain you.

sparklite2: Root, hog, or die.

Looks like the social darwinism of economic conservatism is running smack dab into the moralism of social conservatism.

How many economic conservatives would gladly help Dr. Zeke get rid of all the "useless eaters?"

Eh? “Useless eater” is a left-wing term, as is the false splitting of conservatives into “economic” and “social” (libertarians are not economic conservatives, BTW).

If he thinks earth is our mother or that we can force others to provide us food, then he is not Christian

oh no! The Pope's proven himself! It's just common sense...blah ..blah. Doesn't matter what the facts are, you just roll with your defense. When you finally pull your head out, who knows where you'll be. Blind support has that affect.

Let’s return to the issue of the thread, which was an incorrect statement made by the AP indicating the Pope called the Earth, “...the mother of everything.”

I'd be trying to change the subject after your pious 'common sense' bull you laid out. Just admit you were wrong, or does that betray the Pope and you lose your indulgence? Very weak.

Church’s position on Marxism or socialism

This one. Back again, supporting the economic views in line with those of the Left.

“Clearly the pope is not following Scripture.”

In his defense, you can’t exactly follow Scripture and serve as pope simultaneously.

Francis’ last remarks on economic issues. Surely you saw it. Or is this another common sense EPA denial?

Well, you're the one who said: There is no “right” to have the rest of society be forced to maintain you.

At some point, a religious obligation kicks in to assist the destitute. It isn't secular welfare, but it there is something there.
