There have been a few First Ladies who have given us lasting legacies. One example is The Betty Ford Center, opened in 1982, in Rancho Mirage, California. The BFC, offers inpatient, outpaitient and residential day treatment for alcohol and other drug addictions, as well as prevention and education programs for family and children. The center has 100 inpatient beds available on their campus, and additional lodging for 84 clients in the Residential Day Treatment. Betty Ford's decision to undertake such a project came after her own struggles with alcohol dependence and diazapam addiction.

It's remarkable just how many people this center has been able to help. One doesn't need to be a Hollywood Star to check in for treatment, but it helps to be well off, just to pay for the treatments. A typical inpatient stay of four to six weeks can cost between $20,000 and $32,000. dollars. Many insurance policies will cover a small portion of that basic cost projection. Famous patients include, Drew Barrymore, Lindsey Lohan, Jay-Z ,David Hasselhoff, and scores more. This is a gift created by toil, focus and a strong sense of serving others, a gift that keeps giving the choice of a better life to thousands of people, their loved ones and their families.

Have you ever tried leaving one WITHOUT wanting to do it?

I have been taught that it is important to differentiate the symptoms and the disease. And "want to" a. k. a. will power, is highly over rated. In my experience.

The will to win is the strongest motivator.

Congratulations on choosing to live a healthy life. I still have a lot of homework to do on that angle myself. I’ve quit smokes a couple of times, meat too here and there, but the key is in every instance, the final decision was mine. Smokers can be very stubborn, even rebellious in our personal pursuits of happiness. Overt second or third party nagging to change my ways does not usually work with me, at least not in the long run.

My "want to's" were very strong and sincere, but the threat of death was the determining factor, for me ... which translated into ... fear.

How afraid are you, and what will you do if you're backed into a corner by a violent man who IS going to kill you and what will you do to stop him or at least put up a good fightr against his intentions ?

THAT'S when you'll quit smoking .. cold turkey

I smoked two to three packs a day of menthols for over 40 years

Two years ago I quit after aforementioned scare

Too late ... got emphasema

Now .......... life is not fun ... it's a necessity.
