SAN DIEGO Mike Hardin -- beloved burger master, philanthropist and owner of Hodad's, an Ocean Beach institution -- has died, leaving the community in mourning.
As news spread of his death, mourners gathered and left remembrances in front of the Ocean Beach restaurant on Newport Avenue, creating a makeshift memorial.

First time i’ve heard of him is on the news tonight.
We got hamburgers there in August, when we were in San Diego. So crowded that we walked down to the beach and sat on the beach wall to eat our burgers. Messy, but amazing! RIP Mr Hardin. Glad your restaurant will keep going!

Met him once at Hodad’s while there for a trade show. He served us up the “Guido Burger”. I still have a picture of it...

Found it. This is from June 2011 when I was in San Diego for a trade show.
The world famous Guido Burger personally recommended and served to our table by Mike. If I remember correctly it's a quarter pound patty topped with grilled pastrami and caramelized onions:
