Williamsburg mom prepared to face charges for abandoning “dangerous” son

Williamsburg, Va. – Kimberlyn Williams feels unsafe in her own home because of her 12-year-old son.

“I am his mother and I do love him, but he`s dangerous,” Williams says.

She says he’s so dangerous that she is prepared to face jail time to keep him out of the house, to not only protect herself, but her two younger children.

“I have been hit, bit, kicked,” she says. “He has threatened to stab children at school, to kill them. He has these outbursts.”

She says her son is now at Riverside Behavioral Health Center in Hampton. He was put there after Williams called police last week because of what she says she witnessed between her son and four-year-old daughter.

“When I went in, I found him exposing himself to her and trying to coerce her to touch him,” Williams says.

Williams says that was the final straw after years of violent and inappropriate behavior, and years of trying to get him the help he needs.

“It`s not a case of us not trying to get him help,” she says. “This is not an isolated incident. It’s been a gauntlet of doctors and medications and diagnoses.”

Her son is set to be released Thursday, but Williams does not want to bring him home.

“If I do not show up to get him, I will face criminal charges or child abandonment,” she says.

Williams says Child Protective Services told her if she refuses to take him, her son would be placed in a 24-hour supervision residential facility — something she’s wanted all along. She says it would take police arresting her to get her wish.

“I want something to get done,” Williams says. “I don`t want it to be you take this one and you risk your other children’s health and safety or you go to jail. There has to be a better way.”

To get her son the help he needs, Williams says she’s prepared to face the consequences.

“Nobody wants to talk about this,” she says. “It`s something we would certainly consider a private family issue, but along those lines maybe it can help other people.”

Neither James City County Police nor CPS will comment

That’s like asking how it would be a conservative value to leave families without health insurance ... therefore the government must do something to make sure these families and their kids have health insurance,

AND ALSO how would it be a conservative value to leave so many poor people hungry, so we must have a government program to make sure these people are fed, along with so many kids in these families!

AND THEN ... how is it a conservative value to have so many mothers and their kids without a place to live ... therefore we must have a government program to provide these people with places to live.

You see how that works?

Oh I know how it works. You’re proposing anarchy as conservatism. The woman needs help. Her children need help.

The People created Government and empowered it to establish order and mutual protection. It is exactly the government’s role to step in and help if the family cannot do it.

In Post #89, I said, as pointed out by many conservative FReepers, that it’s not the government’s business or responsibility to tax us, to transfer wealth forcibly ... into government programs to help others who are “disadvantaged”!

No, it’s up to people themselves, through charitable organizations, that people donate to by their own choice, voluntarily, whatever they deem is appropriate ... and for these private organizations to help these they deem who are in need.

It’s not the government’s business to intrude in families or to forcibly transfer wealth to those the government deems needs “our money”!

apparently his definition of “conservatism” in these situations (which you and I seem to have faced) is that when your money runs out (and it will, for treatments that cost thousands out of pocket per day and are diagnosed to require years or a lifetime of care, which is why residential mental hospitals are for the uber rich, uber poor, or state ordered)

why then, you lock your crazy relative in the attic

assuming you haven’t sold or lost your home

On the other hand there is a type of poster called a troll...

So you’re an anarchist/libertarian and not a conservative.

got it

The govt shouldn’t be providing law enforcement either I suppose.

Are you stating that a person with any disability, mental or physical, (or their parent/caregiver) is undeserving of public (tax) money to assist them? And asking for it makes them “liberal”? I already know your line on conservatism, so just yes or no, please.

You already have about all I could say on the subject ... above. I couldn’t be clearer about what FReepers here on Free Republic have said about the government forcibly taking money from people to redistribute it to groups of other people through a whole slew of government programs. If you’ve read other FReepers about this, you already know this.

Well that’s quite interesting ... to call the rejection of the nanny-state government, and rejection of government in family affairs ... as trollish behavior ...

I hope you know this isn’t the “Democratic Underground” ... LOL ...

Trying to stir things back up is indeed trollish behavior.

Your definition in using that term is exactly the situation of what FReepers here on Free Republic argue against all the time ... the government NOT forcibly taking money out of their pocket to redistribute the wealth to other groups that the government deems needs it more than the ones who earned it, and doing so through all these “programs” to actually accomplish this redistribution.

You’ve got an argument, there, with an awful lot of FReepers! ... :-) ...

I guess those FReepers who argue against the government intruding into family matters and against the government redistributing wealth through their myriad of social welfare programs ... are all exhibiting this trollish behavior when they post about it ... LOL ...

A lot of words to say blah blah blah blah

Anarchy is anarchy, the founding fathers chose NOT to have anarchy. They had good reasons which stand true even today.

It still doesn’t change the position of the overwhelming majority of FReepers against government interference into family affairs (which is argued very frequently here) or their opinion against the forcible redistribution of wealth to others through the government’s redistribution programs. Those are core issues with the overwhelming majority of FReepers.

The state should step in to incarcerate the mentally ill family member who is out of control violent and endangering the people at school and at home. In the olden days, dad would have beat the you know what out of the kid or killed him if he didn’t straighten up. We are not allowed to do this anymore.

Its not really that hard troll. The overwhelming majority of Freepers would support this woman getting some help so her troubled son doesnt rape or kill the other children.

There’s no problem with FReepers wanting to help her ... as I said, voluntary help from conservatives is what many do. It’s not that individuals are not wanting to help her” ... it’s not having “government” establishing any right to intrude on families ... and not having government forcibly redistribute wealth to other groups, through the government’s forced redistribution schemes and programs.

FReepers are happy to voluntarily help people ... but NOT GOVERNMENT and their forcible redistribution programs.

This is at the event where individuals CANNOT help. To do so not only risks more damage to the children and family but creates a legal risk to the person helping.

They need professional and legal help.

But forget it, you’re a troll and I don’t know why I went down into the gutter to argue with you.
