When the Seattle Seahawks face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday, more than a hundred million Americans will tune in to root for one side or the other, or maybe just to watch the commercials. Prognosticators have any number of ways of handicapping the matchup: Maybe defense wins championships, maybe its all about the run game or special teams, or maybe one superstar can take over a game.
But from a political perspective, history argues the Seahawks have the advantage. Thats because their fan base looks much more like the American electorate than the Patriots fan base.

Come on Steve, lighten up. I found it entertaining. Why? Because I do NOT root for teams from Blue States. I always root for teams from Red States. My kids told me I need to stop letting politics affect my sports. I said: “Politics and Religion are the two things that affect your life more than anything else.” So.....
This helped me a little bit; pulling for the Seahawks, I guess. Was torn because they are both from Liberal States.
Stats are for losers, as the Seahags are about to find out. Whom the Gods would destroy they first make obnoxious, arrogant smack-talking thug-tards. Like Seattle.
Let's revisit Monday, n'kay?
I’m pulling for the Patriots. Should I wear a deflated football, like a cheesehead?
With the points fore & aft, like a Robin Hood hat?
(flameproof suit donned)
;^)
I had a similar thought.Politics correlated with Football???????????
For the first time in a long time, we may finally have two near-equal teams in the Superbowl, and that should make for a great game.
BUT if the score is close, that means one interception/fumble/mistake can completely change and decide things, especially if it’s late in the game when there’s no chance to make up for it.
Both teams are good, I’m pulling for Seattle, but I wouldn’t be shocked if NE wins. Just hope the refs are NOT a factor!!!

LOL.... Good one!
I live in Washington State, I despise Pete Carroll because he was a dirty college coach IMO and I despise the hype....GO PATS! —
After about 2 weeks of Balls Flap, my disdain for Carroll remains, while the hype has become just a big laugh.
So I am firmly anti-Carroll (and Seahawks).
Seattle purple? Sorry, I see this as a blue vs. blue game or, put another way, cheater vs. cheater. In the end the game will be decided by the refs who seem to have taken over NFL outcomes. The refs seem to have lost perspective in their calls as has the NFL Commissioner in doling out punishments that affect entire cities and their fan base. In an effort to be politically correct, the NFL has lost me as a fan.
But there is a new factor here: the quality of the natural grass field they'll use. They had a problem with the grass field being too wet during the BCS Championship Game four years ago; hopefully, the field will be reasonably dry for the Super Bowl.
Really a dumb article. The team who has the most results win the game. Results only matter in football. Go Pats!
And the Seattle defense was terrible against the run against the Packers and Aaron Rodgers did anything he wanted to do against their defense. If Seattle plays as bad as they did against the Packers the Patriots will win the game going away. The only reason Seattle is even in the Super Bowl, other than the Packers falling apart in the last 4 minutes of the NFC title game, was Arizona playing the entire year without their first string quarterback. Arizona loses gave Seattle the homefield advantage. If Seattle wins the game it will be the most unlikely repeat Super Bowl championship in history. They are not that good and both years they made the Super Bowl they could have just have easily lost the NFC title and certainly should have lost it this year if not for the monumental collapse of the Green Packers. Any team that does not pick up their initial first down till the second half does not deserve to be mentioned with the great teams.
People outside SEA and NE pretty much hate both teams (similar to my reaction with the Broncos/Steelers/Cowboys make it in) and neither teams is one of the League's favorite sons...
And happy Blue Friday!
The FANBASE is purple, meaning Seahawks fans in WA, ID, OR, and AK...
Denver lost to Seattle for the same reasons Denver lost to the Pats...it only differs in how badly.
You might want to give a teensy bit of consideration to the other 17 games. I’m actually quite pleased that the rest of the nation has thrown the baby out with the bathwater and evaluating both of these teams based only on their most recent performances. Can’t wait for Sunday...
Dallas was better than Seattle. Makes no difference that they didnt make it to the Super Bowl.
Wear a sweater with PV=nRT.
I’m guessing you mistakenly thought I meant Dallas in one of those instances. I didn’t.
I meant that Peyton Manning has certain weaknesses, and last year both teams were able to denature him and the Denver defense (once the Pats stopped self-destructing). Aside from a lot of Manning stats in garbage time the Pats did the same thing this year.
