Sarah Palin Slips into Self-Parody
National Review ^ | January 26, 2015 | Charles C. W. Cooke

Skipping to the end:

...

Consider, if you will, what happens to a person who suggests that Sarah Palin is anything other than saintly. Right off the bat, they are accused of disliking America or Alaska or conservatives or mothers or the working class — or even women in general — and then they are informed that their “hatred” is showing. Next, their motives are questioned and their supposedly secret “agenda” is exposed for the world to see, for no right-thinking person could dislike Palin on the merits, natch. “I hope you enjoy your elite cocktail parties,” the apologists will say, and then they will huffily tell you that they “hope signaling that you are ‘one of them’ was worth it.” And finally — as is the case when one expresses disapproval of other cult figures, such as President Obama, Ron Paul, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and Paul Krugman — it is presumed that all animadversion must be motivated by envy or by snobbery or by secret admiration, and that it can therefore be safely ignored. “What have you done,” they will ask, “that compares to my paragon of virtue?” All told, it’s really quite pathetic.

...

Having been mercilessly and unjustly pilloried by the media throughout the 2008 campaign, Sarah Palin had a clear choice in its aftermath: She could sober up and prove the buggers wrong, or she could collapse into ignominious pasquinade. Sadly, she chose the latter. The rest of us should choose to move on.

You must rather I voted for the full blown Democrat.

I would rather you had voted to express your REJECTION of ANY agenda to increase the scope of government. Whether you intended it or not, when you voted for Romney, you voted for the Republican party to increase the scope of government.

Please tell me who an alternative was in those years that had even a possibility of winning.

A realist accepts reality. The reality is that either the Republican or the Democrat was going to win, in ALL those races and very probably in 2016 as well. The winner in 2016 will be either a Democrat or a Republican unless a miracle happens, and they do on occasion happen, but I ain't holdin' my breath. I'm a realist.

The reality is that although I voted for Dole and HW Bush "against" Clinton, those who voted for sure-loser Perot did Republican conservatives and America a favor. They reduced Clinton's "win" to tepid plurality status both times -- Clinton's so-called "popularity" was a media myth. In the "only poll that counts," most voters rejected him, that was the reality. And it hurt him -- Clinton got slammed with the Republican revolution and then impeached. That is the reality.

In the case of Romney, I wish you had voted third party in pursuit of the winning possibility of making sure whichever government-growing tyrant won, Obama or Romney, got in with a same weakening plurality, which would HELP conservatives by weakening the left in both parties.

Sasparilla, free yourself of "lesser of two evils" moral relativism because it is a false guide where intentions and actions are worlds apart -- you intend to turn things right but your vote acts to turn things left.

When you vote for the "lesser" you use your vote to endorse and empower evil. USE YOUR VOTE TO WEAKEN EVIL and starve it of votes. It is better to vote third party than to stay home for that reason, but even at that, it is better to stay home than to vote for the Republican party to increase the scope of government -- that is, unless you really WANT the Republican party to do that. Then by all means, vote for it -- BUT OWN IT. Admit and understand that it is what you are voting FOR.

Liberals are in a weak position now. Hopefully, that can be capitalized on.

They are in a weak position in both parties because the voters are rejecting them. I will continue to capitalize on that weakness and urge you to do the same. Vote for what you want to win and STOP voting for what you want to lose, figuratively AND literally. You are hurting America when you vote that way -- I voted that way for years and wish I had understood it sooner.

I don't care a whit what the left or the media say. I expect disinformation and trash from them. It's the GOPe and their well paid minions constant berating of Gov. Palin and her family that offend me and millions of other American voters.

Gov. Sarah Palin - targeted for political and personal destruction by the left, the media and now the GOPe for being overtlyPro-Freedom, Pro-American, Pro-Life, Pro Traditional Family, Pro-Christian and Pro-Capitalist. These qualities threaten the very fabric of the left in America and the World today.

It's not an opinion that there's no such thing as voting "against." It is FACT.

It's not an opinion that "lesser of two evils" is a form of moral relativism. It is a FACT.

I'm not disagreeing with your opinion unless your opinion is that you want the Republican party to advance the scope of government.

Is it your opinion that the Republican party should go the way of Romney? If so, then we have different opinion.

But there are only facts when it comes down to the truth and consequences of voting for evils, lesser or greater.

You deceive yourself when you try to pass facts off as opinions.

it has do with how she conducts herself.

Considering the fact that she doesn't come from royalty, has never been honored for her "societal coming out" and never attended an ivy league college, I'd say you're right, she's just outback country white trash......./s

Finny, there is no fixing willful stupidity. People this into reality denial are in no way different from the admitted liberals we mock regularly.

This is why all we can do is take pleasure in knowing that when they get their RINO in 16 and when their RINO comes for their toys first (as history shows happens to all good useful idiots), it will be they, not us, that suffers most. Because on top of losing their toys and being bent over like a Muslim goat by their heroes, they will spend the remainder of their lives knowing that they were told over and over and they knew better.

Mock them. Laugh at their clown shows. But never, ever think you can teach a pig to sing. The GOP has, in the last 6 years, PROVEN that there are some people so mindless that they will elect their oppressors ‘no matter what’.

Furthermore (!!!)

{^)

... You are entitled to your opinion. So am I is a brazen cop-out.

Why are we both in the Republican party? I can tell you why I've voted straight Republican for more than three decades -- in general, because I figure Republicans will act to reduce the size and scope of government.

Why are you in the Republican party? If you are in the Republican party because you trust them to do a better job with the same growth in government, then one of us is in the wrong party.

If you are like me and you essentially count on the Republican party to be a force for reducing the scope of government, then it is not opinion, but straight FACT that you -- we -- have been voting for candidates who act to grow government. That's a fact -- you may be entitled to your opinion, but facts is facts.

The “fact” is that until and unless someone who can get votes across party lines runs, this whole discussion is hypothetical. No one currently publically considering running can do that. Nor, does anyone come to mind.

Maybe Sasparilla is a pig that will never sing, but then again, maybe Sasparilla is the same now as I used to be. I mean after all, it only took me 30 years to figure it out, and if not for my wise old pop, RIP, who helped many people turn politically from left to right over his long life (they've told me often enough), maybe I'd still be in the same darkness that Sas is.

Then again, maybe Sas is what you think, either pro-big-government Republican in any case, or beyond enlightenment.

Who knows!!! OINK!

Actually the ‘fact’ is that the only way you get ‘someone who can run across party lines’ is by compromising conservatism to make it ‘not conservatism’ so that it’s palletable to liberals.

Winning with a liberal is winning with a liberal regardless of what political party they claim as their own. Which is to say, exactly where we are today. If you love where we are, do what you have been and get ready to lose your toys when your political choices come and strip you of them for the greater good. If not, then do something different.

PS: you already lost marriage, a straight military and healthcare to your political choices. Lets see what your pain threshold is.

...this whole discussion is hypothetical.

No, really?

Honest????

Want a fact? When you vote for left-leaning Republicans, you make the left more powerful in BOTH parties. Not hypothetical, not an opinion, but hard cold mathematical FACT.

It took me a very long time to figure it out. What's taking you?

Amen!!! Sometimes though, the trees don't know their own fruit. I am pretty certain that your own writing has changed hearts and minds for the better over the years, and sometimes I think you sell yourself short, not to mention selling FR short!

But then again, if you really did, you wouldn't be here! We're all working on the pork choir, I guess. God help us!

Amen, Norm!

Sasparilla, the above is NOT hypothetical. It is a reality that is difficult to accept, that's all. It was a long time before I had the guts to accept it.

You lack the guts to accept it now. Maybe later you'll find the courage. I hope so.

Alaska is probably more similar to where I grew up (northern Minnesota) than anywhere else in the lower 48. Don’t lay that BS culture snob charge on me.

Same here. A part of why I want Sarah Palin to run and win the nomination is to shut them (GOP-e) up.

Finny, a thing is or it is not. Yoda had it right.

One can either push for conservatism or stand back and watch others push for liberalism. There is no way, shape form, explanation or excuse as to why a conservative forum allows open attacks on conservatives with proven to be bullshit rehash accusations. Nor why people like Rubio, Perry, end to our collective shame, ROMNEY AGAIN are pushed as an acceptable alternative to Democrats when they ARE democrats in every issue that matters.

NONE.

So Either FR and the PTB are fighting FOR conservatism or they are standing back and ALLOWING liberalism. They should stand on one side ot the other. Not half ass things with this ‘hands off/let’em fight it out’ nonsense. EVEN RINO CENTRAL RED STATE took a stand for God sakes!

And if lightning strikes me for stating an obvious truth, so be it. It will not change the truth and I really don’t care anymore anyway.
