The original Apple Watch, circa 1995 (Video at site)

The Apple Watch may be the most anticipated tech product to launch this year, but the company's first stab at the watch market dates back 20 years.

Most fans probably don't remember the original Apple Watch. It wasn't a real product for consumers; Apple created a limited number as a promotional freebie for Macintosh users who upgraded to Mac OS 7.5 software.

The upcoming high-tech Apple Watch will connect with the iPhone via Bluetooth; the first "Apple Watch" came with scratch resistant glass, a blue bezel, a colorful Apple logo and "Mac OS" emblazoned on the wristband.

YouTube user Jonathan Morrison got his hands on a model and brought it to the 2015 International CES in Las Vegas earlier this month.

The reactions to the piece of Apple history are pretty great: "It looks like a Mickey Mouse watch," says one person in Morrison's video.

The clip above, first spotted by 9to5Mac, is likely the closest you'll get to the relic.

How ironic. The same year as the original TIMEX Microsoft Datalink Watch:

But unlike the Apple watch, this one was actually functional.

Oh, that 1995 Apple watch was functional. . . it told you the hour, minute, and second. . . and on the band it said "Mac OS."

True. It’s a time piece for sure. An interesting watch. Very “Miami-ish” in style.

The anodized aluminum is a nice touch. The Timex of the day was a really ugly piece of crap. I admit, I had one...for about 4 months. Then I gave it to my grandson. He used it for about 4 months and gave it to his son, who used it as a hammer and a hot wheels demolition cone. Hehehehe.

And then there’s this, circa 1977:

My son gave me one of those vintage Apple watches for Christmas this year. Too much of a collectors item to wear, but it does keep time. The design looks more like some kind of late 80s Po-Mo than 1995, but it’s still pretty cool.

But it won’t give me my e-mail.

They are going on eBay for around $500 right now. . . so you probably could trade it for an iPad that will give you your email, LOL!
