Fail of the Day: QVC Host and Isaac Mizrahi Debate Whether the Moon is a Planet or a Star [video]
I Can Has Cheezburger? ^ | 1/18/15

This conversation will hurt your brain.

QVC is not typically the go-to place for spirited discussions about the mysteries and marvels of space, but this week host Shawn Killinger and fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi turned it into one.

Killinger was presenting a "Cherry Blossom Print Boyfriend Cardigan" design by Mizrahi which she thinks looks like the Earth "when you're a bazillion miles away from the planet moon."

And from this point forward we realize our education system has failed us, at least in the science department.

"From the planet moon…" repeats Mizrahi.

"Isn't the moon a star?" she asks, questioning herself.

"No the moon is a planet darling," he says, but Killinger isn't so sure anymore.

"The sun is a star. Is the moon really a planet?" She wonders.

It goes on like this for while. They get people to Google it for them off camera, and Killinger makes a joke about having a blonde moment.

Maybe QVC can book Neil deGrasse Tyson next week to set everyone straight, and while he's at it, pitch his own line of celestial vests and ties.

By itself the moon would likely be designated a dwarf planet. By some designations the Terra / Luna system could be considered a binary system. (I lean this way)

By all accepted standards the moon is our moon period.

Most assuredly not a star.

... pitch his own line of celestial vests and ties.

I once tried to buy a van Gogh Starry Night-patterned tie. They were out, and I lost interest.

Mrs. F. digs QVC intensely/immensely.

But even she admits that this woman is a ditz.

Why would anybody knowingly wear a fashion that was designed by a man who describes himself as “married” to an Arnold.

That was funny. You could re-do that entire scene effectively with Harold and Kumar sitting in on an overstuffed couch, toking a spliff staring at a test pattern on TV. Everybody has a ‘deep water’ topic, something they know nothing about and should never discuss in public.
One of my deep water topics would be Cars and the Engines that run them.

You almost have to be to actually sit there and watch a channel sell you crap in slow-motion.

Is there no such thing as the internet to the people that view QVC?

This reminds me of a checkstand tabloid story from years ago, after Sonny and Cher split — Sonny ticked off the various goofy things about Cher, one of which was, she thought the Moon was just the Sun at night. Thanks Slings and Arrows.

The argument for the binary side is that the Moon always travels in the same direction relative to the Sun.
