For the first time in at least 50 years, a majority of U.S. public school students come from low-income families, according to a new analysis of 2013 federal data, a statistic that has profound implications for the nation.

The Southern Education Foundation reports that 51 percent of students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in the 2012-2013 school year were eligible for the federal program that provides free and reduced-price lunches. How about military officers? I make a pretty good government salary as an army helicopter pilot. Am I a bum? My kids go to public school. Bums too?

Don’t be so dramatic.

Agree totally. And the part about single parents hits me as one of the biggest causes. The sharp decline of traditional families has destined a whole generation of children to grow up in impoverished lives.

Even if the one parent they have in their lives are really good and does the best they can the child is still very disadvantaged.
Of course, with the economy in free fall since 2008, even two parent families are struggling like never before.

After doing everything they could to destroy the traditional family, liberals are shocked more kids are in poverty!

Their hypocrisy is staggering.

How many are homeschooled or go to private school?
How many are illegal immigrants?
How many are children of unwed mothers?
