Not only that, but I frequently see children sitting in the main part of the shopping cart. I guess their parents don’t have the faintest idea of hygiene. I don’t want their kids’ filthy shoes all over the surface that comes in contact with my groceries.

No one does,but filthy hands that can touch just about anything in a supermarket are just as bad.

We can’t avoid it.

I take it that you avoid organic food. (You do know what organic fertilizer is, don't you?) And produce picked by hand. And fish products, except, perhaps, Mississippi certified catfish. And don't even think about where eggs come from.
