A hundred question test and you only have to score sixty to pass.

I think thirty percent of the kids could pass the quiz in the ninth grade and already get this out of the way. Maybe it might be a good feature...but I’d put economic knowledge at the same level. We have so many idiots who don’t know how to handle credit or debt....getting deep into debt, or signing their name to legal documents that they simply don’t understand. There’s other things which ought to be put onto some kind of test....not just civics.

Way back in 1965 in RI we had to take civics the first half of the year and Problems in Democracy the second half of the year. One day the student teacher taught a class in favor of Communism. He walked up and down the row of desks and told us the benefits of Communism as opposed to the problems of Democracy. So yes I think civics should be taught but considering the leftist slant in today’s curriculum one has to wonder what will actually be taught.

Yes they should.

How one earth can a person vote if they don’t know civics?

Yes, imagine a civics test that the NEA or Common Core would devise.

I’ve heard of other states with similar problems. A lesson plan has been available since 1791. It is called the Bill of Rights. It would be tougher for commies to turn the class into a marxist love-fest.

The school year is 180 days. Each civics class would be 45 minutes. That’s 135 hours of civics. My guess on how it would be broken down:

60 hours - the history of government (divine right of kings, magna carta etc..)
20 hours - What is Capitalism and why it fails
20 hours - What is Communism and why we were wrong to oppose it
20 hours - What is Socialism and why that’s really best for everyone
15 hours - How evil banksters caused The Great Recession and why the government was right to bail them out

Wait...that has nothing to do with civics? Oh well.

Passing such a test ought to be a requirement for voting, as well.

(Took the test on that page, scored 100%, although I had a brain fade on the total number of amendments, and guessed.)
