WASHINGTON (AP) Not only do more Americans have health insurance, but the number struggling with medical costs has dropped since President Barack Obamas health care law expanded coverage, according to a study released Thursday.
The Commonwealth Funds biennial health insurance survey found that the share of U.S. adults who did not get needed care because of cost dropped from 43 percent in 2012 to 36 percent last year, as the health care laws main coverage expansion went into full swing.
The proportion of people who got treatment but had problems paying their bills also dropped, from 41 percent in 2012 to 35 percent last year.

Yes. They struggle less after they die.

I know several people who are looking into treatment in foreign countries for cash. Hip replacements in India, oral surgery in Mexico and possible cancer treatment in a place yet to be determined. (The difference in cost of the dental is $45,000 here and $17,000 in Mexico. Yes, they know the risks.)
That must be some dental procedure that is needed.

Man in his 50’s born with soft teeth. They’ve worn down so far his jaw has moved. His lowers are hitting the backs of his upper and chipping them. He’s already had lots of work. If I understood, they’ll take them out and put in implants. (It’s a lot more complicated as his jaw has to be moved back into the right position.) The process will take several weeks.
Lies and more lies... The dust has not settled on obumbler care which is a medical and economic train wreck / disaster.... AARP has a vested interest and members should go to AMAC instead.
But silver plans with cost-sharing subsidies including deductibles and copays really are cheap (to the insured -- someone else is obviously paying).
Switched to AMAC. Screw AARP.
Hubby and I are as of January 1st paying $16k a yr for insurance. All of our income is documented. Obamacare rates for the bronze plan are $1100 per month so $13,200 with a $9k deductible and 40% copay on everything. Max out of pocket per year $12,500 besides premiums so $25,700 for doctor bills if anything tragic happened. Neither is affordable but at least our insurance plans don’t dub themselves as affordable health care. What a joke.
Wow, talk about bald face lies.
Trying to justify their having supported Obama in this scam - taking three-quarters of a trillion from Medicare funding to help pay for insurance for the uninsured - most of which funding came from Medicare Advantage plans which provided extra coverage for mainly poor folks who couldn’t easily afford Medicare gap policies - so now AARP can make big dollars selling Medicare gap policies to those who no longer get them from the government - AARP represents the best interests of AARP, not the elderly - shame on AARP......
If you don't mind me asking, what were you paying before?
Between our 2 insurances it went up 3k this year and last year it went up about $1500. So $4500 just in the last 2 years. It has been going up ever since they started talking about passing Obamacare.
Yikes. They brought you to a boil pretty quickly. That is a nice chunk of change that could be going towards retirement. Did you at least get to keep your doctors?
We are both already retired but every dime of our income is documented. We both lost our doctor since he went to an $1800 per year fee on top of what insurance pays and is now considered out of our network PPO.
I take it that means your cash flow is fixed and you can't cut back to create a hardship or take a subsidy. If your can create a hardship, you can then get catastrophic coverage without paying a penalty. That cost would be similar to lightly subsidized bronze plan.
Income is too much to create any hardship. We are in the ‘rich’ category according to politicians. We worked very hard to set ourselves up for a decent life after an early retirement. Our house is paid for so we have absolutely no write offs. They suck us dry in every way they can.
Sorry to hear you got clobbered. Maybe this thing will unravel and you will get some relief..
I’m struggling! But then I have a job and have to pay for others.
